Critic Reviews
- When it comes to getting your bike around the track, Milestone has done an excellent job of creating a believable simulation of MotoGP racing. Since you aren’t able to physically feel the forces acting upon your body and bike, it is paramount to recreate those feelings through audio and visual cues in-game, and MotoGP 20 does this to great effect, especially when you play in one of the first-person views.
Mitchell Gassner · May 08, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - On the presentation side of things, MotoGP 20 offers up solid 3D models of the real-life riders and they can be seen in the pre-race cutscenes along with the decidedly lower fidelity NPCs in the staging areas. These non-gameplay shots are a welcome addition though and do help to give the proceedings the vibe you’d expect from a AAA sports title.
Chris Jarrard · Apr 28, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Racing is a constant challenge. Each corner, opponent, and straightaway is a chance to gain or lose positioning at a bevy of different points on the track. I’m used to that cadence, so to introduce new wrinkles that evolve and deepen the experience on and off the track is exciting. It feels like a new take on speed.
Matthew Kato · Apr 28, 2020 Reviewed on PS4 - MotoGP 20 represents an iterative upgrade over last year’s entry. Fans who skipped MotoGP 19 should definitely pick up this year’s release. The challenge is there for those who want it and taking care of the business side of being a professional rider can be its own reward. Taking a no-handholding approach will no doubt turn off new fans of the sport, but difficulty sliders help to ensure all but the most incompetent leaners will see a podium finish.
Paulmichael Contreras · Apr 27, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The MotoGP series has been a bit of a mixed bag over the years, but with MotoGP 20 Milestone is finally beginning to realise its vision for a full-bodied racing simulation. The considerable Career mode offers a deep management experience, while the introduction of Historic Mode adds a fun way to earn rewards for daily challenges. But it’s the changes to on-track performance and the deeper bike mechanics that make this a truly realistic, if not particularly penetrable, experience.
Dom Reseigh-Lincoln · Apr 26, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - MotoGP 20 is unquestionably a good, solid racing game made by a passionate team. When you're weaving through a track at breakneck speeds, slowly mastering the tough but engaging handling, it can be great fun. The problem is an unapproachable first few hours; little to no guidance will easily put some new players off. However, if you can get past that initial bump in the road, there's a robust and challenging racer waiting to be conquered.
Stephen Tailby · Apr 26, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Even though I hadn’t played a MotoGP game in years, I found it hard to put down from an exploratory standpoint as MotoGP 20 kept me interested. Handling problems were a big issue as it felt like the bikes weren’t fully in my control even at lower speeds. A visually pleasing game may need some better hardware if you’re playing on an older PlayStation that is not a Pro around other riders. Career mode will hold this game up in the long haul.
ReporterDarius · Apr 24, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Overall, MotoGP 20 is a game for the player looking to be as close to racing on a crotch rocket at 300 mph without having to go jump on a bike themselves. With a very deep career mode, a ton of customization options, several modes of play, and stunning graphics from beautiful locales, there is a lot to do for the gaming purist looking for a hyper-realistic recreation of one of racing’s finest leagues.
Doug Mercer · Apr 24, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - All in all, MotoGP 20 is undoubtedly the best MotoGP game yet. Not everyone will be on board with some of the changes made to its core modes, though. There’s room for the managerial features of the career mode to be refined and expanded upon in the next iteration, and opponent AI could still do with a bit of work, but they do little to sully the racing experience provided this year.
Richard Seagrave · Apr 23, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - I know I might sound like a scratched record with this verdict, but MotoGP 20 is basically like the other recent motorcycling racers that have been released on modern consoles: extremely competent when it comes to graphics, sound and content, with more than enough to keep you invested for months, but you’ll need to get used to its very realistic and newcomer-unfriendly controls first.
