- A standard, competent kart racer hampered by frequent loading times and irritating writing, but bolstered by an intuitive and powerful editor that lets gamers make their karts, racetracks, and characters their own - or at least lets them make their characters into Spider-Man.

At the end of the day, there's no justification for a game that forces two loading screens on you before it even begins.

It also makes sharing content completely seamless, constantly promoting a stream of new material to your console. The single player career can be difficult, and the long load times quickly become a bind, but ModNation Racers succeeds in providing outstanding online sharing facilities and great multiplayer fun.

The framework for a raucous multiplayer experience is in place here, and as long as the community's wacky laissez-faire attitude toward user-created content is allowed to persist, ModNation Racers will be an amusing kart-racing sandbox to drive around in.
Brad Shoemaker · May 26, 2010 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - ModNation Racers is not only an extremely competent racer that any aficionado of the genre will enjoy, it also boasts a lot of non-racing, creative outlets that extend the life of the game, help build community, and even make the time spent more rewarding. However, if you're really just looking for racing, you're going to miss out on roughly half of the game's appeal. As such, I can't recommend this title over other kart racers out there based strictly on pure racing.

The character, vehicle and track creation tools are easy to use but have a high ceiling for the creative player. Beneath the highly-personable features is a racer that is chock-full of intense racing action.

The creation tools offer a lot of depth for dedicated track designers, though whether they're accessible enough to achieve critical mass remains to be seen.
Game Trailers · May 10, 2010 Reviewed on PS3 - The controls feel good, and the menus for the player-creation portions of the game are easy to navigate…which is good, because there are a lot of them. Racing feels great, the courses are creative, and it’s fun to unleash a storm of attacks on your opponent; too bad your opponents also have access to those weapons.

While it has garnered a lot of attention due to its "play, create, share" gimmick, ModNation Racers stands out as a deep, satisfying racer through its gameplay alone.

If you're more interested in the actual karting experience, though, you might find ModNation to be ever so slightly lacking in personality. It's good fun with mates and has a surprising amount of depth, but lacks the magic that would have elevated it to a must own title.
