  • While anyone can play and enjoy The Show, particularly because of the fine level of control afforded by custom difficulty settings, those who appreciate the acute intricacies of baseball are bound to be left giddy by the attention to detail and level of depth provided. I just love playing it, whether I’m relaxing at home or riding on BART.

  • Unsurprisingly, MLB 12: The Show is a great time on both the PS3 and Vita. Sony's San Diego Studio has put the same care and diligence into this year's entry as it has in the past. Simply put, MLB 12: The Show is an excellent experience that honors and respects one of America's oldest institutions. Get off the bench and get in the game -- you won't regret it.

  • The core game remains the same but the additions this year make it an MLB game worth owning for baseball fans and PS3 owners alike. While there is always room for improvement as the franchise is starting to show its age in some areas, the fact remains MLB 12: The Show is about as good as it gets for baseball on the PS3 and should not be overlooked by sports fans this year.

  • MLB 12's visuals have few equals in the world of sports games, with impeccably detailed player models, gorgeous stadiums, and fluid animations. The developers clearly strived to make the game resemble a broadcast, so the camera will quickly cut to umpires on the line, disappointed batters after being robbed of a hit, mascots prancing near the dugout, and views of the crowd.

  • It doesn’t get old to lay plaudits on MLB The Show as a franchise since it has led the charge for a high quality baseball simulation for so many years. For 2012 that hasn’t changed. If there’s a revolution here, it’s the association with the Vita version. But if you’re PS3-only, you’ll still find a thoroughly complete, finely tuned baseball sim that should address the desires of franchise fans and baseball sim newcomers alike.

  • This is still the best and most polished baseball game available, and perhaps even the best ever. But with where the series was prior to MLB 12, fans couldn't help but have hoped for something a little more. The main additions this year undoubtedly enhance the game, though overall it just lacks any sort of awe-inspiring features its predecessors seemed to include every year.

  • MLB 12 is a sign of a franchise growing stale, a formerly pristine playing field in need of re-sodding. As enjoyable as it still is to play, important elements of the experience aren’t up to par. The future remains murky for now, with Take-Two’s exclusive third-party license expiring this year (and an apparent lack of desire to renew the contract). Perhaps MLB 13 will see some stiff competition to inspire it to greatness.

  • MLB 12: The Show just doesn’t quite turn heads like it should. This is definitely made for those who understand baseball—those who know when they want their ace at the backstop, ready to stop the slugger from shooting the gap or getting a tater, using an Uncle Charlie to keep away from his wheelhouse. The Show, through and through, is a fun baseball game to play with buddies but won’t keep the average fan playing.

All in all, despite a steep learning curve for controls and the inclusion of Eric “Would Drive Dirt to Suicide” Karros in the broadcast booth, MLB The Show 2012 keeps up the standard they have set as the leading MLB francise. And with the great Vita season sharing option, SECA San Diego has taken this franchise from a good game to a must for any baseball fan.

  • MLB 12: The Show, though, is a gold standard for baseball games and sports games alike. SCE San Diego’s attempt to turn nearly every last bit of baseball into a video game is most definitely a success. From details to customization, to the sheer amount of modes and options, MLB 12 The Show is nothing short of rewarding for those most passionate about the game of baseball.
