- Minecraft Dungeons isn't the deepest, most complex game ever, but it definitely keeps you busy and invested long enough to get to the end a few times as the developers intended. And if you're looking for some company, you can bring in local or online friends to play with you. The game was released as a budget title, and it's worth the price.
John Tucker · Jul 15, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Minecraft Dungeons does promise that DLC is coming, whether this ends up just being a cash grab to add a couple extra levels is yet to be seen. All we can hope for is that this will give fans of the game a reason to return to the game and give a reason to grind out levels and gear, otherwise, Minecraft Dungeons will surely fall to the wayside.
Aaron Price · Jul 01, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Minecraft Dungeons is a solid game that is not only cheap, but accessible. It also helps that it came out on everything and Game Pass owners get to check it out for free. It is great seeing Microsoft expand the series out to more genres. The recognizable fidelity aids in it reaching a larger audience and the price tag makes it an impulse purchase. It also helps that the quality is there. I think anyone who takes a dive into Minecraft Dungeons will have a great time.
Ken McKown · Jun 17, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - I can’t shake the feeling that the game should have made more of an effort to incorporate crafting given the game it’s based on, which would at least give people more things to do in between missions and break up the action a little. Minecraft Dungeons is fun if a bit flawed and is one of those games best spent playing online with friends so you have something to do while shooting the shit with each other.
Allen · Jun 15, 2020 Reviewed on - Minecraft Dungeons is actually a surprisingly amusing dungeon crawler. While the very simple gear and leveling system may not be for experienced dungeon dwellers, this game proves to be an ideal first experience for a younger audience, or those who have no experience with the genre. While this game will not win any Game of the Year awards anytime soon, it’s still an entertaining experience that is quite amusing throughout its short lifespan. Even though there is some endgame content to be found, this is quite redundant.
Ibuki · Jun 14, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Minecraft Dungeons is a light take on a genre that oftentimes takes itself much too seriously. The story is family-friendly, most levels are good recreations of the Minecraft biomes, and the gloom, blood, and gore of most ARPGs are replaced with the cute monsters and iconic items we know and love from the Minecraft universe. With a short campaign mode and lack of crafting, Minecraft Dungeons may not be a hardcore offering that will give you hundreds of hours of play, but it is a perfect way to spend a few hours playing together with friends or your kids while you wait for the next season of your favorite dungeon crawler to start up.
Mitchell Gassner · Jun 11, 2020 Reviewed on PC, XB1Read full review - Minecraft Dungeons has some randomization issues and is really against the idea of me sharing. And still, I’m perfectly content squashing waves of Minecraftian enemies with the most powerful abilities I can find. Yes, there is a childish nature to the whole thing. No, that doesn’t make it boring, or even lacking in challenge. Like the original, Minecraft Dungeons ultimately just wants you to have fun.
Gabs Tanner · Jun 08, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - We’d give Minecraft Dungeons a very light recommendation to those of you looking for a surface-level introduction to the ARPG genre or for something to play in co-op with the kids. If that doesn’t describe you, then we’d suggest going with either Torchlight II or Diablo III, which both offer a more substantial and fulfilling experience of this genre.
Mitch Vogel · Jun 06, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The simplistic combat, coupled with the ridiculously easy drop-in-and-play gameplay makes for a fun and engaging roguelite dungeon crawler either alone or with friends. You’ll have fun, that’s guaranteed, and is perfect for all ages. Don’t expect a complex story, rich with lore, but you’ll almost certainly have a good time if you’re a fan of its predecessor.
Chad Norton · May 30, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Minecraft Dungeons may not fully satisfy the hardcore looters coming from other games where they grind for gear and min-max their builds, but if you approach it with its purpose in mind, you'll likely get a lot out of it. The unlikely direction for the Minecraft formula works well in the first major departure for the franchise, and with how vast the source material is in terms of biomes and content to explore, there's a lot of room for this sort of thing to grow. It's a success from the start, and it feels like it'll only get better with age.
