  • You can easily blow through Mighty Switch Force in a few hours or less, and the game's 16 stages will inevitably wind down with you wanting more, though the modest $5.99 price makes the game's brevity a bit easier to swallow. While you may be inspired to revisit old stages to better your time, it's a bummer there's little reason to do so. Still, it's a short, fun puzzle romp with just enough action to keep an upbeat pace. If you can ignore the irritating, poorly implemented timer, then you'll find plenty to enjoy in this pint-sized download.

  • With stylish visuals, solid sound, and some very addictive gameplay, the only thing I see hurting this game, which is a bit of an issue, is the fact that it encourages quick gameplay, which makes this game shorter then it could be. At the end of the day though, the $5.99 price tag for Mighty Switch Force is not that expensive for something that so many people should enjoy.

  • Mighty Switch Force is the best Mighty installment yet, even if it still feels like a tease. It's a game of cops and robbers, the sexy future edition, that blends light running-and-gunning with crazy platform manipulation. Once again, WayForward proves that it knows what its doing when it comes to downloadable titles on a Nintendo service. Other developers need to step up their game.

  • The game looks unbelievably good. WayForward continues to be the king of the 2D sprite-based platformer, with big beautiful sprites that animate fluidly and, and detailed backgrounds that add atmosphere to this futuristic game. The music is similarly fantastic and will keep you going throughout this sometimes-tricky game. The 3D effect is put to excellent use and is similar to how it worked in the Kirby’s Adventure 3D Classic.

Mighty Switch Force is a great first effort from WayForward for Nintendo's 3DS, but it has its issues. The game lacks length, and its Par times will unnecessarily encourage players to rush through their first playthroughs making the game seem even shorter and stealing away some of their sense of the success. Let's hope that just as DSiWare received several different titles from this studio, so too will the 3DS eShop and that whatever game comes along next will be mighty enough to truly eclipse their earlier hits.

  • While on the subject of 3D, Might Switch Force! is one of the best games to make use of 3DS' special feature. The developers play some great tricks, like billowing smoke and bits and pieces of rock so close you can (almost) touch them. The best part? It shouldn't hurt your eyes. If anything, the biggest knock against this title is length. With just 16 levels, you'll blow through the entire experience in just a couple of days.

  • As impressive as its first two previous Mighty releases are, WayForward has managed to kick things up a few notches with this third title. Not only is the switching mechanic extremely well implemented, but the visual and musical presentation the developer has moulded around it is equally amazing. Mighty Switch Force is easily one of the best games WayForward has crafted and just the type of top-tier 3DS title Nintendo's eShop has been in dire need of.

  • That would be enough, but each level also comes with a truly insane time target to aim for, encouraging you to pare your hard-earned five-minute completion back down to - gulp - a minute and a half, say, and making a rather short game a little more replayable in the process. If you have the speedrunning bug, be warned: Mighty Switch Force's taunting clockwork worlds are going to be a dangerous, and possibly fairly maddening, compulsion. Even if you don't, this is still clever, personable, and beautifully made.

  • You can see Might Switch Force off in around an hour, and so it ends up feeling like the first chapter in what should really be a longer experience. Just as you're really getting into it and wondering what else can be done with the mechanic - boom, show's over. Par times for each level attempt to add replay value, but in practice all they really achieve is to make you rush through the game on your first playthrough, rather than pausing to savour it.

    About the game

HQ calls on cybernetic peace-keeper Patricia Wagon to bring these renegades to justice. With the help of Corporal Gendarmor and her trusty Pellet Gun, there's nothing she can't handle. When the going gets tough, Wagon activates her Helmet Siren, altering the world around her in 3D space. Even the third dimension can’t hide criminal ne’er-do-wells from the long arm of the law. Enter the mechanical shape-shifting, dimension switching world of Mighty Switch Force and blow crime away.
