  So as I’m playing Midnight Protocol, studying how best to get around that Skorpion ICE so I can lower the bridge to the encryption node I need to reach that data vault before the SysOp moseys over here to ping me, each decision is accompanied by a machinegun burst of typing on the keyboard. And I can’t help but think, “Yes indeed, I am hacking!” Rattle rattle rattle clack clack, and the data vault has been revealed! To the black market to shop for some new programs and maybe a deck upgrade!

  Midnight Protocol is one of the best experiences in the newly ascendant hacking simulation category. Its biggest asset is the simple, yet solid set of mechanics and the way success can only be achieved by carefully balancing aggressiveness and planning, with some guessing thrown in for good measure. The narrative also works well, sketching an immersive world while delivering twists and revelations.

  We were pleasantly surprised with Midnight Protocol. The unique spin on gameplay and the immersive storytelling emulated the feeling that we were a hacker. Although the game has a few early game balance issues, mostly because you’re “wasting” actions, our overall experience with Midnight Protocol was very positive. It’s a niche title, but if you’re in the specific niche that this game caters to, there is a good chance you’ll end up loving it.

  Midnight Protocol nicely recreates the experience of hacking. Things can get tense when unexpected securities and threats suddenly pop in, leading to personal exposure. But at other points, the game almost too accurately feels like a job. One will spend a lot of time peering through memos, hunting down leads, and responding to inbox clutter.

Its turn-based strategy gameplay with a mysterious narrative woven throughout will hook anyone who wants a uniquely cerebral challenge. If you’ve ever wondered how poking around private cyber places can effect change — either for the greater good or the greener gains — say “I’m in” to Midnight Protocol.

  Throughout Midnight Protocol there will be tense situations, difficult encounters, and plenty of mysteries to solve. As answers start to come in, more questions arise, and the game has a few major twists rivaling those in Resident Evil Village. Players will have the chance to choose who they will fight alongside and what kind of person Data will be.
