- With all that said, Melatonin never stopped putting a smile on my face. The pitch-perfect sound and visuals, along with the twist on Rhythm Heaven‘s under-imitated style make for a unique and memorable, if brief, experience. Consider it a compliment when I say that my time with Melatonin passed by like a pleasant dream.
Josh Tolentino · May 21, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - In the end, Melatonin is one of those indies that does just enough with its modest limitations. It may pare down on the complex inputs of other rhythm contemporaries, but its ruleset and pacing feel taut and finely-tuned. Not every opportunity hits its stride, thematically or mechanically, and yet its pleasant vibes provide enough reward to continue forward. While the protagonist may be perpetually drowsy, Half Asleep's freshman title never threatens that you’ll suffer the same fate.
Lee Mehr · Apr 14, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Overall, Melatonin is a dreamy rhythm game that hits all the right notes. It’s compelling yet relaxing, with an addictive quality that will have you yearning for more.
Jemma Casson · Jan 29, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Despite its lack of musical cues and somewhat varying difficulty levels, Melatonin’s suite of challenges is a delight for rhythm game fans and it’s so satisfying to nail that PERFECT.
Michelle See-Tho · Jan 03, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Its structure is roughly the same, but its pastel palette, soothing soundtrack, and loose-yet-cohesive approach to storytelling give it its own unique flair. Melatonin may only be a 1 – 2 hour romp through dreamland, but if you really savor its playful art style, brain-melting music, and easily-mastered mechanics, it can quickly become a bedtime routine of its own.
Heather Johnson Yu · Dec 29, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It’s taken a simple idea and sharpened it till it can split atoms, and then put it in a visually noticeable package. You could take Melatonin and port it to every platform imaginable, but I’m thrilled that it exists on PC and Switch alone, the sweetest pairing of choice and accessibility.
Oliver Shellding · Dec 28, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Whether you're watering dream flowers, catching hamburgers in la-la land, or socking a few dingers mid-snooze, Melatonin makes and leaves behind a warm and inviting impression. You can even edit each of the non-mashup levels to make your own customized version.
Jordan Rudek · Dec 24, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Melatonin works smoothly without any bugs and the controls feel crisp. The visuals are dreamlike, and the color palette is conducive to making people sleepy. With all the music to discover, it's kind of like an interactive album. Towards the end, it felt like just automatically pressing the space bar to the beat from level to level wanting to hear the next song.
Samuel William Bramlett · Dec 21, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A trick, though repeated, that rarely gets old thanks to some cunning creativity and way with visuals, Melatonin is a satisfying if short distraction you’ll adamantly want to prove won’t get the best of you.
Jordan Helm · Dec 12, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Melatonin feels like a gorgeous love letter to long-time fans of the Rhythm Heaven series. Despite it being rather brief, the fact that every rhythm game has its own Hard Mode with a more challenging set, alongside the ability to create your own beat maps, checks all of the boxes.
