  • Is this Mega Man collection good? Sure thing, it’s comprised of a good chunk of why we fell in love with that blue fella back in the day. Is this the best Mega Man collection out there? I don’t think so. If all you have right now are modern consoles, this is the way to go (I’d still recommend it in other platforms, not the Switch), but if you have access to a PS2, an Xbox, or a Gamecube, just grab the Anniversary Collection instead. It features more games and some exclusive arcade bonuses not featured here.

  • The rewind feature is a welcome inclusion that helps to mitigate the difficulty of some of the games, and the overall quality of the series difficult to dispute. We would highly recommend you pick this one up, all the included extra features coupled with the ability to play these games both at home and on the go make it a no-brainer.

  • If you already have the Legacy Collection on 3DS and are happy with it, I don’t know how badly you need this Switch version. However, both volumes in addition to the upcoming Mega Man X collection, on a single console is awfully tempting prospect, right? It’s like the GameCube all over again.

  • The Mega Man Legacy Collection is a great retrospective for long time fans, and the perfect introduction to the series for curious new fans. The price tag is a little heavy for only 6 NES games, especially when past Mega Man collections have had more games, but the importance of the games, and quality of the extra content, make this one handsome package.

  • Still, classic collections like this are great on handheld consoles as they can easily be played when multitasking, in short spurts during lulls or for hours when stuck on a plane. Those who already own the release on consoles have no reason to double dip unless they want to play it on the go, but for those who prefer the portable experience, Mega Man Legacy Collection is a winner on 3DS.

While I can compare the console versions of this collection to the 3DS one, I can say for certain it adds portability to the entire package. While the screen size may be an issue for some, it doesn’t stop this Capcom classic from being a pretty great package overall. The museum is a great distraction, and the challenges add a bit more to the play time.

  • Mega Man Legacy Collection is a great package with a lot of content and stuff to do - for newcomers it's worth acknowledging that each game is very challenging, and could be too much for someone who isn't used to the steep learningcurve. With that in mind the wealth of extras, the challenge mode and the sheer scope of six games nevertheless make Mega Man Legacy Collection a great option for anyone who's looking for an old-school treat.

  • There were countless moments throughout my near 20 hours with the game where I know I would have moved on to something less punishing if I weren't playing it for review. But I'm glad I own the Mega Man Legacy Collection. It's a peek into the early days of complex level design, interlocking combat mechanics, basic physics, and the best of what could be accomplished visually and sonically on the NES.

Overall the package does little more than give me an excuse to play through these six great games all over again (for the 10,000th time), yes that includes 4, 5, and 6. Fans of Mega Man should definitely check it out, as the fan service and museum alone are worth the price of admission to hardcore enthusiasts. I am now awaiting the inevitable Mega Man X collection, or at least DLC adding 7-10 to this package.

  • Overall, the Mega Man Legacy Collection is a great addition to a Mega Man fan’s library, or a great way to finally play the classic Mega Man games if you haven’t already. The minor frame rate problems could be an issue if they don’t try to fix it at some point, but it doesn’t detract too much from the collection as a whole. Each game has been remade as faithfully as possible to keep the spirit of Mega Man alive, and the added bonus content and challenges make it more than a well-done port, allowing you to put a lot of time into this collection.
