  • Master Reboot is an intriguing first-person adventure that, with a willingness to explore, provides copious doses of atmosphere, tension, and sci-fi horror. Some moments are terrific, yet on the flipside some scenarios disappoint, while general sloppiness in the controls and technical performance are relatively forgiveable drawbacks. Full of creativity and enjoyable moments, this is worthy of booting up that Wii U.

  • Whether invading the memories of the deceased sounds like the norm, Master Reboot is riddled with enough intrigue to carry you throughout the game’s six-hour playtime. Ranking among the most unique games to have graced the Nintendo eShop, it promises you a memorable adventure full of scares.

  • Overall, I was stunned by how amazing this game is. Once I started playing, I didn’t want to stop until the very end. Even after I finished this amazing game, I still think about it, as it really got stuck in my head.

Master Reboot's premise of a databank that stores the memories of the dead is a strong one, but at times its desire to dabble in horror weaken its exploration-based elements. Even so, its creepy ambiance and wide range of puzzles manage to carry the weaker segments, but an out-of-place final boss with timed platforming ruins the fun.

  • Master Reboot is worth powering up, as there’s a clever and frightening tale to uncover here. Unfortunately, the narrative is hidden beneath the actual gameplay, which can be downright frustrating at times. While there are glimmers of an outstanding experience, the title’s amalgamation of ideas never quite forms a perfect circuit, making this an interesting experiment that could have been so much more.

  • For all its myriad of failings though, there really isn’t anything like Master Reboot on PlayStation 3 right now. Try and peer behind the veil of its aesthetical deficiencies and atmospheric missteps and players will find a unique, if not mildly engrossing explorative experience, but it remains one that unequivocally falls desperately short of its lofty promise.

Master Reboot reminds me of two games that were released twenty years apart. 2013’s Remember Me presents a future world in which technology allows memories to be digitally uploaded and shared via a brain implant. It follows a protagonist stripped of all her memories fighting to regain her identity.

  • Technical competence is a stumbling block at points; things like collision detection on objects in the tightly timed finale, being stuck outside of level boundaries, and on one occasion, even a crash between FMV and gameplay do occur, but it is less buggy than Arma III right now, and will most likely have these issues rectified come release on Tuesday, just in time for some Halloween jumps.

  • Despite its flaws, Master Reboot is a solid title and a welcome addition to the Wii U's horror library -- a genre which is lacking on the platform. For £9.99, it offers a variety of environments, each of which house several puzzles and different gameplay mechanics. For fans of horror and puzzle games, Master Reboot offers an equal balance of the two.

  • I have to stress that the game isn’t bad, I actually fairly enjoyed the first two hours of the game. I feel bad about what I’ve written because I can see what was intended, and the enthusiasm that went into it. However, Master Reboot is full of unfilled potential and missed opportunities. Another six months of development could have done this game a world of good.
