- The submarine scenery is still delightful and offers much to see and there are plenty of things to occupy yourself with if you want to swim off and do your own thing rather than chomping through the story as quickly as possible.
Devo · Jun 25, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Maneater is still paced oddly with the game generally starting off as more of a challenge and ending with an overpowered shark that has little to fear (an issue I think any game dealing with an evolving animal is going to come across). The combat, particularly the lock on system, still isn’t perfect but fun enough.
Anthony Mann · Jun 01, 2021 Reviewed onRead full review - It's just a shame the journey from infant to megashark isn't populated with a wider variety of activities. Like Hooper said, sharks just swim and eat, and that's unfortunately not enough to fill even a short action-RPG like Maneater.
Christopher Livingston · May 26, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Maneater is a great idea for a video game, a ridiculous shark revenge fantasy in an open world setting with plenty of humour injected through its unique narrative framing and the vocal talents of Chris Parnell. However, as much as terrorising beach goers and snatching hunters from the bows of their fishing boats is a pretty good time.
PJ O'Reilly · May 26, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The Switch port of Maneater is a perfectly fine way to play a surprisingly good game with a very unique premise. While it might sound like just another open world game in an underwater setting, it does have some elements that make it a game worth experiencing. The unique shark-based gameplay, with its feeding mechanics and progression system, is a lot of fun, and very enjoyable on-the-go, despite the limitations imposed by the Switch’s hardware.
Kyle Nicol · May 25, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Turning the usual “human hunts animal” expectation on its head, Maneater is much more than a simple shark simulator, and provides an fun open world RPG that you can really sink your teeth into.
Megan Walton · May 25, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - In summation, Maneater was worth the wait on Nintendo Switch. It’s not a perfect game, but it’s a hell of a lot of fun. It’s the murderous Ecco the Dolphin I didn’t realize I always needed. If you’re a stickler for graphics, you might prefer playing it on another console. But for playing a hungry shark on the run, there’s nothing better. Here’s hoping this isn’t the last we see from Tripwire in this delightfully demented new IP.
Josh Speer · May 25, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall, while it's always impressive to play a fully-fledged open-world adventure on the go on Switch, Maneater is at its best played elsewhere. With a limited view underwater and reduced visual fidelity, the already repetitive game goes from just above mediocre to downright bad in spots, especially when the sacrifices to port it onto Switch affect the player's ability to navigate the world.
Alex Santa Maria · May 25, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - I don’t think it’s a game to which you’ll devote lengthy play-sessions, but it may provide just enough to make this revenge-tale worth seeing through to the end.
Kirk Hiner · May 25, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Maneater is an absolutely brilliant game. In fact, it was one of my favourite games of 2020. The action-rpg style of gameplay combined with the shark mechanics creates such a unique and fresh experience, it’s hard not to recommend it to any gamer. Keep in mind though, this is about a shark that will eat damn near everything, including people, so if you have some younger shark fans in the house, you might want to reconsider exposing them to it. Though truth be told, my little guys tried it and got a kick out of it.
