- Lumines wasn’t served awfully well on its first appearance on PC, which didn’t support modern resolutions. Now it does, and its remastered music also sounds pristine. But I personally can’t quite shake the sense that Lumines was originally designed for PSP, for train journeys and lying sprawling on the sofa, because that’s where I cut my formative experiences with it.

The several varying modes ensures that there’s always something new to try out, and despite all of them leaning on the same concept, they’re equally as fun and addictive as one another. Issues with the difficulty’s fluctuation to the side, this is easily one of the best games of its kind in recent memory. Don’t pass this by.

Having that experience so lovingly presented--and on the Switch, having Lumines handheld again for the first time in six years--is an occasion worth celebrating.

And each and every one of its music tracks will have you tapping a foot on the floor as you play. But what really makes it stand out from the crowd is its variety. When you’ve grown tired of one mode, which will take awhile, you’ll simply move onto another. Ultimately, Lumines Remastered is just fun, fun and more fun.

If you already own it you likely don't need to revisit it on a modern machine as the re-release doesn't really add anything you haven't seen before, but this is a great way to discover the magic for the first time.

Using the “HD Rumble” feature as a way of enhancing the music is a stroke of genius, and all I can hope for now is that the Lumines Effect makes way for the Tetris Effect on Switch in short order.

Intense and immersive puzzle action, psychedelic visuals, a killer soundtrack, and a bevy of content and modes make for a premier puzzle experience that should not be missed. Lumines is an addictive experience that is positively a delight to play, and we would highly recommend it to both veterans and newcomers of the puzzle genre.
