  • In the end, L.A. Noire holds up. It’s a little odd to play as an open world game because of it’s strong focus on story, but the immersion is unreal. Every aspect of my detective work felt like a genuine adventure in a world I could never be a part of. There’s plenty of content here to be played, and I strongly recommend giving L.A. Noire some time, even if you’re not a shooting, car chase thrill seeker. The focus are the cases themselves, and that’s awesome.

Visually the game looks great in 4K. I checked out both the Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch versions. The Xbox One really shines with the added detail in 4K. The weather and lighting has also been improved, and the faces are a bit easier to read thanks to the added resolution. This is still a last generation game, but it was so well designed it has aged extremely well. L.A. Noire was a unique game that deserved a second chance. My biggest hurdle in recommending this version though is the price.

  • L.A. Noire is a very unique game and definitely one worth playing if you like detective thrillers. While some of the cases can be very macabre, it really is a very fun adventure throughout. If you’ve played the game before, I’m not sure playing on the go is the most compelling reason to buy it, but for newcomers, you won’t find another game quite like this on the Switch.

  • If you enjoyed Cole Phelps’ investigations the first time round, you’ll likely still get a kick out of them six years later. But if you’re new to the game, its flawed systems and dated visuals will likely tarnish the experience for you.

  • A fantastic return to the seedy, corrupt underbelly of LA in 1947, LA Noire is one of the best crime focused games currently on the market, with unique mechanics that really add to its overall look and feel. However, poor game world graphics, clunky controls and a reliance on MotionScan technology sometimes makes it feel a bit empty.

  • LA Noire is one of the best detective games ever made because it actually gives you the tools to feel like a real detective. The game gives you all the puzzle pieces and asks you to put them together yourself, and the result is a truly engrossing experience.

  • LA Noire is a game about crime, justice, and doing the right thing even if it’s not always clear. Cole, as a protagonist, is a boy scout, but troubled by his famed WWII past. You get a real sense of who he is throughout the game and its many flashbacks to WWII.

  • L.A. Noire's troubled development resulted in accusations of poor management at Team Bondi, the fallout of which was enough to effectively sink the studio. Despite its troubled history, it's heartening that players are being given the chance to revisit Los Angeles on the Nintendo Switch.

  • Rockstar parent company Take-Two has repeatedly said it considers L.A. Noire a candidate for becoming a recurring franchise, and replaying the game six years after its initial launch proves its crime-solving formula holds up. The Switch version may suffer visually, but the modular nature of this narrative makes it a perfect companion for gaming on the go.

  • L.A. Noire remains the best detective game around. Combing crime scenes, interrogating suspects, and catching them in lies with evidence to back up accusations is just as rewarding as ever. This port has allowed the game to age a little better than the original, however, it doesn’t look like a massive upgrade was made in terms of graphics.
