  La Mulana EX is a fantastic throwback designed by a team with an intense passion for the retro games. It captures the spirit of old-school NES platformers, right down to the “Nintendo hard” difficulty, but also manages to forge its own identity. There’s no other Metroidvania quite this lethal or devlish in its puzzle design, and very few games of any era manage to strike such a strong balance between self-aware humor and genuinely interesting lore.

  On Paper, La Mulana EX had the potential to be one of the better games on the PlayStation Vita, but it can be overly difficult at times and the presentation is a real let down, pick this one up if you're up for a challenge or a bit of nostalgia, or wait until it's in a sale if you're not too sure.

  But that's part of what makes it special: it never tries to be anything that it's not. The dialogue is a little wacky, but other than that it's wall to wall death and exploration; no shoehorned story or bonus gameplay – just playing a game for the sake of playing it. It won't be to everybody's tastes, but it never feels like it's trying to be. ...La-Mulana EX is a quality recreation of the titles from yesteryear, but perhaps lacks a little soul of its own as a result.

  Puede que a simple vista La-Mulana parezca otro de esos indies 2D pixelados anclados en una corriente retro que están atiborrando el catálogo de PS Vita, más necesitada de nuevos AAAs exclusivos y menos ports, pero al igual que Fez este juego es una joya, puesto que no se trata de un paseo 2D de saltos de 3-4 horas, sino una aventura de aplastante dificultad de varias decenas de horas que nos desafía constantemente ya sea esquivando, combatiendo o resolviendo puzles.

  La-Mulana EX puede que no ofrezca las suficientes mejoras y novedades como para que volváis a pasar por caja si ya os lo pasasteis en su momento en PC o en Wii, aunque si este no es vuestro caso y nunca le habéis dado una oportunidad, no se nos ocurre mejor versión que esta para disfrutar de la obra de Nigoro.

  Desafiante como pocos y prácticamente único en su especie, La-Mulana es una gran aventura de exploración en 2D que encandilará a los jugadores más exigentes, cansados de superar con demasiada facilidad cualquier videojuego en la actualidad. El diseño de sus rompecabezas, lo desafiante de su acción y el espíritu retro que destila por todos sus poros lo convierten en una compra muy recomendable.

  La-Mulana EX dà il meglio di sé su PlayStation Vita e riporta in auge qualità di tutto rispetto come l'esplorazione, la scoperta, l'abilità nel comprendere da soli cosa fare e come risolvere i problemi. Senza dimenticare la pazienza. Di sicuro non è un prodotto adatto a tutti, pertanto fareste meglio a rivolgervi altrove qualora l'elevata difficoltà e l'approccio old school estremo non siano nelle vostre corde.
