  • Knights Contract almost redeems itself with an interesting story line, and an unexpected ending, but the total lack of fun throughout the game means you’ll need to torture yourself to experience it. Magic spells have a stylish flair which genuinely looks fantastic, but as I’ll always say, beauty isn’t everything, and the lack of real substance underneath ruins it.

  • Knights Contract could have been so much more than it is now. The story truly is imaginative and the combat system makes destroying your foes loads of fun. But it’s in the details where the experience falls apart. Unforgiving quick-time events, unintelligent AI, frustrating cheap deaths, and confusing level design are just a few problems

  • Knights Contract is far too rough around the edges to be worth its asking price. The needlessly frequent cutscenes interrupt the game's flow, combat against the majority of enemies requires little thought, and you'll be constantly fighting either the camera or the level design

  • Judging from this and the similar recent release Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, Game Republic seems to have a thing for stretched-out escort missions-as-games. But if it's going to convince us that that particular trope is truly a worthy of a full game, it's going to have to do much better than this.

  • With erratic pacing and often-aggravating boss fights, Knights Contract doesn't always feel like a worthwhile adventure. Yet though the flashy combat isn't very complex, it's fun to wield your deadly weapon and powerful magic spells in brutal tandem. The problematic gameplay elements can dampen this fun, but the stylish artistic design and interesting story help counterbalance these issues

It completely blows up a cool premise with maddeningly stupid AI (a death sentence in a game that’s a glorified escort mission), a terrible camera that enables its unfair (and un-fun) instant kills, and a boss battle formula that should have never made past the first month of development

  • Even when the game seems to be working against me at every inopportune time, the drive to see the fate of Heinrich and Gretchen made me push forward. I’m glad I did. I didn’t see the ending coming. It's a satisfying reward at the end of a punishing journey

  • It has fast, intuitive combat, cool, creepy environments, splashy visual effects, good music, solid voice acting, and a story that's fairly fresh, as far as action games go. The sad thing is that all that is undermined by bumbling AI, absurdly difficult and frustrating bosses, and a maze-like approach to level design

  • Knights Contract does very few new things, but it does a handful of old things quite well. The combat, for the most part, is satisfying and visceral, and the story, at times, is genuinely compelling. A mostly entertaining experience, it’s marred by some terrible flaws and a handful of moments of unadulterated rage; much, we’d expect, like actually selling one’s soul

  • Knights Contract is essentially one, giant escort mission plagued by a myriad of gripes including horrendous AI. and repetitive combat. Despite its interesting concept, there is not enough on offer to salvage the game from the sheer magnitude of problems encountered throughout
