- It’s an incredible sense of discovery that soon sees Kingdom: New Lands become such a remarkable experience. It can be confusing at first, for sure. But, as you start to piece together all the systems that are at play, this standout addition to the Nintendo eShop soon becomes fiercely compelling to the point that you can happily sink countless hours into it at a time. Just keep an eye out for Greed.
Alex Seedhouse · Oct 02, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - When it hits those lows, it's not unplayable, but it's dang close. I'm more apt to put it down after a particularly choppy run, but I still find myself coming back to it after a while. Despite its technical flaws, I still want to see all of the different areas, and learn all of their secrets.
Darren Nakamura · Sep 25, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - There is a balance to learn and a set of rules to be discovered, but even with the admittedly gorgeous aesthetic - and progressing beyond the initial stages to where the dilemma of ambition over security ramps up - it may still not be enough of a pay off to reward your time. Definitely one to consider, albeit carefully.
Jon Cousins · Sep 15, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - This is not a very action-heavy game, but more a dynamic adventure with the highs of triumph and the lows of defeat all wrapped up in a beautiful simulation game. With a great challenge, subtle and organic strategy and a gorgeous presentation, Kingdom: New Lands brings an excellent title to the Switch, one you won't want to miss.
Perry Burkum · Sep 14, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - There's always something new to do or discover in Kingdom: New Lands, which makes for a really engaging and entertaining experience. Whether you are creating a completely sustainable and efficient kingdom or just barely scraping by to survive and rebuild, it's extremely satisfying to see the systems you invest in come together. Even when they don't, you get valuable knowledge that makes you want to dive right back in and test it out.
Campbell Bird · Mar 15, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - he original PC version of Kingdom was unique, and gave us the core game which is, on its own, a work of genius, but New Lands takes it to the next level by adding in this sense of progression and challenge. This way, Kingdom gets to keep all the brilliant, addictive aspects of a roguelike (perma-death, randomisation, ephemerality) whilst still giving the player a sense of wider goals and objectives.
Joseph Sale · Aug 17, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Kingdom: New Lands is a very easy to learn strategy game that makes players feel like they’re responsible for their virtual kingdom. I personally think the game could do with a bit more explanation in-game and a way to allocate troops but on the other hand, I understand that the AI just split up to cover both sides of the kingdom evenly. Other than these small gripes, I can’t find much else ‘wrong’ with the game.
Tyler Schurwan · Jan 16, 2018 Reviewed on PC - Kingdom: New Lands is a great experience. At a first glance, it looks like a kingdom management game with a very simple gameplay premise; carefully built with an astonishing beautiful pixel art style. Under its subtle design philosophy, though, lies a deep experience that is both frustrating and fascinating.
Jhonatan Carneiro · Sep 28, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - I can’t recommend this game highly enough and I also can’t see a single gamer who wouldn’t enjoy playing it; it’s relaxing and endearing style almost makes me wish I could escape into that demon-filled forest. Check. It. Out.
Lloyd Brown · Sep 27, 2017 Reviewed on PC - Kingdom: New Lands is as much as a joy on mobile as it was on PC, and feels right at home on a touch-screen.
