  • I don't like Kinect Star Wars. It's not because I feel betrayed by what the licensors let the developers get away with - it really doesn't bother me how Star Wars is used in popular media (I don't even care about the PC World and Vodafone adverts) - I just find the whole thing to be a terrible gameplay experience with the exception of the dancing.

  • Given that the game was announced over 22 months ago, you’d hope that a game based on the Star Wars franchise would offer up a memorable experience, but unfortunately Kinect Star Wars misses the mark in this area, and it may only vaguely interest die hard fans of the franchise, but even they may somewhat hard pressed to find the good in it.

  • Kinect Star Wars certainly has its moments. Many of the individual games exhibit occasional flashes of brilliance, and the absurdity of the Galactic Dance Off bears witnessing at least once. We’re just can’t recommend picking up the entire package in order to do so. However tempting the notion of hands-free lightsaber manipulation may sound, Kinect Star Wars is not versed enough in the ways of the Force to realize it.

Sure, the graphics are lacking and my arms were incredibly tired after Podracing, but these in no way detract from how fun the game is. If you like Star Wars and are looking for a reason to dust off your lonely Kinect, you should buy this game. But be warned, your inner-Comic Book Guy will never shut up.

  • In those areas where Kinect Star Wars does work, it can be a lot of fun to play, and this makes it so disappointing that it so often falters elsewhere. In the end, how much fun you will have with it is going to depend largely on whether or not you have kids to keep occupied while they play with their friends, or how desperately you need something other than Dance Central 2 to play with your own friends.

  • It doesn't matter who you claim Kinect Star Wars is for, it's a shoddy product on almost every level. There are a few glimmers of what could have been in here, but this is not the game that legitimizes Kinect as a game-playing device, nor does it do a single thing to restore any vibrancy or value to the Star Wars license. Fans of Star Wars, Kinect hopefuls, and little kids all deserve better.

  • Visually, the game is lacking, with muddy textures and graphics that hail from a long time ago. The Kinect controls are also unreliable at times (but also work brilliantly well most of the time). Overall, though, Kinect Star Wars fulfills most of the promise of a one-to-one lightsaber game, with enough variety (including that goofy dance mode) to make for a solid Star Wars experience.

  • Kinect Star Wars is a bad game. If you go into it knowing that you are getting full-on camp like The Star Wars Holiday Special rather than a legitimate Star Wars experience, it can be fun, but you do have to tolerate faulty Kinect recognition the whole time. Ever since Nintendo introduced the Wii, I’ve been hoping LucasArts would deliver a great motion-based lightsaber experience, but Kinect Star Wars left me wanting a controller again.

  • Kinect Star Wars has some good concepts, a few of which are actually well-implemented, but the overarching experience doesn't hold up. Lightsaber play feels disconnected -- especially in the same generation as The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword -- and the Kinect just isn't able to do it justice. Like many early Wii titles, the sub-games feel more like activities than actual games.

If you're a longtime fan who's been waiting for a game that'll let you live out your Star Wars fantasies then the wait is far from over. Kinect Star Wars, with all its control and polish issues, has very limited appeal for an adult audience. Kids will likely find more enjoyment out of it, even the absurd dancing mode, but ultimately its more of a Star Wars-themed set of mediocre mini-games than the jedi epic fans are dying for.
