  • Correcting seemingly every complaint critics had about Killzone 2, Killzone 3 is visually impressive, relentlessly entertaining and far more fun than we expected. This is everything a good sequel should be.

  • Killzone 3 is as close to perfect as online shooters get, and I do not say that lightly. The single-player could still use a little bit of work, but its faults pale in comparison to the amount of entertainment that the multiplayer provides, not to mention that the story mode itself really provides some greatness when it needs to.

  • In some ways, Killzone 3 is a step forward. Set-piece battles will be drilled into your brain for some time after you experience them. There's more variety in both the environments and the action, and the game is better off for this diversity. On the other hand, the excruciating story's tendency to intrude just when the action intensifies has an adverse effect on the pacing.

  • Killzone 3’s shocking and abrupt campaign ending serves as a suitable wrap to Guerilla’s extended war-themed trilogy. Even if it is a conclusion of sorts, Killzone 3 stands on its own. The franchise has always fallen just shy of greatness for me. This time, there’s plenty for any action gamer to dig his or her teeth into.

  • Killzone 3 is a well-made game that hits all of the right notes for a AAA title. There isn't a twisting plot or engaging character development in the campaign but I was impressed with the scope of the story of the Helghast Empire dealing with the death of their fearless leader and the gritty ISA military folks fighting for survival in a hostile environment.

For all the punchy intensity of its combat, and the cleverness of its combatants, Guerrilla rarely allows you to truly put that AI to the test: you engage the Helghast on the game’s terms, not your own, funnelled along defined routes and making use of cover points thoughtfully and conveniently provided. Vehicle and turret sections might change the pace – but only by making the game even more of a shooting gallery. And then, a few levels in, Guerrilla begins to experiment.

  • Killzone 3 is the ultimate ending to a new form of sci-fi epic. It is a story of interpersonal conflict and struggle more than two civilizations at war. By taking full advantage of the PlayStation 3 Guerrilla Games has created an expansive world and proves that even shooters can have a compelling narrative. With plenty of variety to keep the action fresh throughout the entire campaign, it never feels tiresome.

  • Killzone 3 may look it hews close to its predecessor, but the thoughtful changes to the gameplay prove that Guerilla Games has been listening to criticism. The revamped controls result in the best Killzone experience yet, and the thoughtfully-conceived multiplayer elements will keep you in the game until you've maxed out and mastered its finer points. Killzone hasn't forgotten its roots--it's just improved its fundamentals in every way that matters.

  • Killzone 3 definitely represents an evolutionary leap, both for the series itself and for the shooter genre on the PlayStation 3. Though the Xbox 360 has certainly had its share of amazing exclusives in the shooter category, spending as much time with Killzone 3 as I have, I can confidently say that Killzone 3 is a strong shooter in its own right, and certainly the best shooter we've seen on the PlayStation 3 platform.

  • The feature set of Killzone 3 is impressive: 3D support, PlayStation Move compatibility, split-screen offline co-op campaign, and offline multiplayer with bots, but no amount of 3D waggle can change the fact that the Killzone 3 campaign is a miserable experience. Killzone 3 certainly offers more bells and whistles than its predecessor -- it's just a shame they've been affixed to an inferior game.

About the game

Continuing from Killzone 2, players find Emperor Visari, the viscious dictator of the Helghast, dead at the feet of Sev and Rico. However this war is far from won. In the wake of Visari's death, Helghan has devolved into a world of political scheming, rapid infighting, and murder. Now, the two most powerful men on Helghan are fighting for complete and utter dominance while Visari’s vision of Helghan is in jeopardy. With limited supplies and no re-enforcements, the ISA must now fight not to win a war, but to survive a lost one.
