- Combat is equally as enjoyable. Launching lightning at attackers has a satisfying Sith-like quality to it. Other actions, like sniping and grenade tossing, are backed by solid targeting systems. Many of the battles bring massive destruction, and the swarms of enemies that ambush you or lay in wait push you to use the environment for strategic positioning. The end result is a nice balance between run-and-gun action and fleet-footed platforming.
Andrew Reiner · Sep 22, 2009 Reviewed on PS3 - It's still a fun game if you're willing to accept these shortcomings. It is not an amazing experience which will change your life but a very competent open-world shooter with some good ideas and a few shortcomings in the execution. It's very easy to recommend as a rental since the game can be completed on a spare weekend and absolutely worth playing once.
Destructoid Staff · Jun 17, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Regardless of the few nitpicky critiques I've made, inFAMOUS is a great effort. The five people I played this game with, including myself, all had a wonderful time. We spent hours passing the controller back and forth, giggling, and asserting our virtual dominance. And that's what this game is all about: having a ton of fun. The extremely user-friendly controls, deep open-world, loads of missions, and outrageous powers combine to make this one of the best titles to hit the PS3 to date.
Jonathan Marx · May 26, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - But it's the quality of the central action in InFamous that I keep coming back to. Everything else would be fancy window dressing if Sucker Punch hadn't nailed the basic gameplay elements, the simple moving and shooting, as precisely as it did. InFamous feels like a game designed from the very ground up to be fun to play, so I guess it's no surprise that as soon as the credits finished rolling on my good version of Cole, I started up an evil one to play it all over again.
Brad Shoemaker · May 22, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - One of the most remarkable aspects of Infamous is how it continually improves throughout the quest. The pacing is excellent. It doles out new abilities, introduces powerful story twists, and concocts exhilarating missions at a steady rate, which means the game never loses steam during the course of the lengthy adventure. And when the credits finally roll, you'll just want to keep playing, to see what the other morality choices reveal and to squeeze every ounce of entertainment from this amazing world. Infamous is an exhilarating and incredibly fun open-world game.
Tom Mc Shea · May 22, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Make heroic choices and avoid unnecessary murder, and not only will you get helpful, power-boosting upgrades, but the citizens will rally to cheer you on and even throw rocks at your enemies. Err too heavily on the side of selfishness, however, and you’ll become a twisted Sith lord who shoots red lightning bolts, gets explosive upgrades and inspires terror and disgust everywhere he goes.
Mikel Reparaz · May 22, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Not content with being one of this generation's best open-world games, we're confident in saying that inFamous is the best super-hero game ever made. While its presentation can be flawed at times, we can't overlook the fact that by putting us in control of the electrically powered Cole, Sucker Punch have offered us the reigns to one of the most fun protagonists we've ever come across.
Sammy Barker · May 21, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - inFAMOUS looks great for an open-world game. Building surfaces are finely detailed, showing lots of depth with brick, steel girders, and cracked paint. The engine holds up well no matter how many explosions and effects are thrown at it, and the lighting is impressive too. However, there's definitely some blur and pop-in from a distance, and sometimes you'll run into an out-of-place pedestrian or a car without a driver. Music dynamically rises and falls as you explore Empire City, and face off with its various gangs, and Cole's personality is cemented by the voice actor's gruff, cocky delivery.
Game Trailers · May 20, 2009 Reviewed on PS3 - inFamous might not be the triple-A exclusive we wanted it to be, but it's still a fine game and well worth adding to your PS3 collection. Had the first half of the game matched the far more entertaining later sections (where the super powers really come into their own) and the story been a bit more engaging throughout we'd be looking at one of the best open-world action games of all time. As we said, being a super hero isn't as easy as it sounds, but if Sucker Punch gets another chance it may well be able to create one of the very best.
Tom Orry · May 20, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Cole's powers are cool, the graphic novel cutscenes are stunning, the story is intriguing, and the city is alive. I could go on and on about this game -- about my hunt for the final few Blast Shards, about the sick joy in blasting a pedestrian and then sucking his bio-energy, about the subtle Sly Cooper references -- but to truly appreciate what Sucker Punch has created, you'll have to sit down and play this game.
