- With a few more health packs and cheaper upgrades, Hypergun could be an excellent game. As it stands now, it has a few enjoyable features, but unless you’ve got the patience of a saint it’s probably only trying if you love the rouge-lite genre and are looking for something unique and new.
Becca Smith · Aug 30, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In many ways, HYPERGUN is like an unfinished house. It is held up by a solid foundation and looks good from the outside, but once you step inside you realize so much of what makes it function is still missing. The 80s neon aesthetic and soundtrack are great, and the fast-paced gunplay has an almost doom-like feel to it, which adds to the frantic energy.
Grady Penna · Aug 24, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Hypergun is a rogue-lite FPS style game where the weapon plays the biggest part in a player’s progression. Level design and enemy encounters will change from game to game but the bosses are always the same which makes learning their patterns instrumental in beating each level. While the game is random, and there are characters, abilities and weapon attachments to unlock, the repetitiveness of the gameplay will eventually wear out its welcome.
Steven Weber · Aug 23, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The developers have succeeded in ensuring the player is accompanied by a refreshing weapon with it’s own feel and personality in each simulation run. This is a game of tremendous variety, both in its randomly generated weapon assortment and enemy types. But that, along with a memorable soundtrack and visuals are not enough to save it from unnecessary repetition and an uneven challenge.
Dave Lambden · Aug 23, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Hypergun is a great game to play with some fun gun control and varying weapon attachments to challenge you while you run through a horde of alien monsters. But after the first four or five runs, things start to feel repetitive, and no matter how good you get against the foes you're forcing you'll start to feel a little stuck, bored, and wanting to start on the last level you died at.
Zack Palm · Aug 23, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - For the most part HYPERGUN is another fantastic frantic FPS shooter with roguelite elements. It’s definitely not perfect as it needs some gameplay additions and some love on the soundtrack, but if you’re as addicted to these games as I am, it’s definitely worth the purchase. The gameplay, graphics, and meta jokes, like adding in their own YouTube announcement video for HYPERGUN within one of the emails in the game, are great.
Jordan Hawes · Aug 23, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Despite its speed, rooms take too long to clear and its sound design doesn’t help with knowing when foes sneak up on you from behind. Rare moments of intensity, mainly when dealing with bosses for the first few times, manage to make it a passable experience best approached in short bursts, but even so, there’s nothing particularly hyper about this gun.
Woozie · Aug 23, 2018 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Hypergun's modular weapons make for wildly imaginative guns, but the game suffers from repetitive elements that drag this roguelite shooter down.
