- I felt that this was a very well put together, and engaging puzzle game. While it may not look like it from the onset, it does hold some tough challenges and touching moments inside. While it won’t be for everyone, if what I have said has interested you at all, I recommend giving Howl a shot.
ISAAC MCCRAW · Feb 20, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - In its sound, mechanics, visuals, and narrative, Howl captures a dark fairytale and creates a gorgeous folktale without losing its way.
Kate Sánchez · Jan 28, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A stunning and challenging folktale that perfectly captures the creativity of the indie spirit, Howl is a delightful game to lose yourself in.
Issy van der Velde · Jan 20, 2024 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Despite initially relying a little too much on trial and error, Howl is an absolute delight once its mechanics click. What initially appears as a simplistic tactical RPG soon morphs into a devilishly difficult puzzle game that begs for repeated playthroughs as you gain a greater command of new mechanics and the core gameplay loops. Whether you’re after a tactical RPG that does things a little bit differently or a puzzle experience that gets increasingly rewarding the more you invest yourself in it, Howl is an easy recommendation.
Shane Boyle · Jan 10, 2024 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Howl's pace is a brisk whirlwind of quick turns and calculated moves. Its imagery is a charming blend of whimsy and violence, dancing across the screen with a playful ferocity. Yet, beneath this surface, a shallowness lurks. The challenge lies not in the depths of its strategy, but in the player's ability to exploit the predictable patterns of its adversaries. These creatures of the wilderness, though fierce in their appearance, are ultimately creatures of habit, their actions dictated by algorithms and predictable responses. Howl isn't a test of tactical prowess, but a puzzle of exploitation. A game of manipulation, where the gamers are mastermind puppeteers in the shadows, orchestrating the movements of their foes to their own ends.
Albert Lichi · Jan 09, 2024 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Howl is a delightful combination of puzzle and tactics RPG that is easy to pick up and difficult to master.
