- The Ubistuff stops just short of being too busy. The Batman detective stuff, as pointless as it is, goes by smoothly enough. The Far Cry 3 “I need a trout jaw to craft my quiver from a carrying capacity of 10 to 15 arrows” keeps things moving in enough directions to fill out the character progression. Mounts from The Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption are always a gratifying way to get around. The unfortunate fact of Horizon is that most of what it does well, other games have done better, and they did it with a compelling who and where.
Tom Chick · May 21, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Horizon Zero Dawn won’t be remembered for being superbly unique. It’ll be remembered because it’s so well-crafted, lovingly cared for, and downright stupendously executed. It doesn’t chart new territory in gameplay, but it charts plenty of new ground with its world, characters, and more. Guerilla took a major risk shifting IPs and genres, and with Horizon New Dawn they’ve created a universe I can’t wait to explore again. If you own a PlayStation 4, this is a game for you. And if you don’t? Maybe it’s time you bought one.
William Murphy · Mar 28, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - This has been a lengthy review to be sure, but great games with so many awesome things to do are easy to talk about for a long time. Indeed, there is a lot more to talk about. Horizon Zero Dawn had a lot of goals and some very lofty ambitions, particularly in a new series outside of the familiar for Guerrilla Games. I am more than happy to say that they met most of those goals and exceeded in many.
Andrew Otton · Mar 24, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Horizon Zero Dawn is a pure sign of what can be completed with an exceptionally designed open world. Not only that, it has exceptional characterisation and a sincere story that doesn't shoehorn elements, allowing for the organic growth of characters. This is a game that I can barely find any faults with, except borrowing some elements from other open world games. Even so, it made each and every element its own in one of the best games to date.
Chris Wray · Mar 12, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - With its excellent combat system that is extremely fun to play, and its breathtaking world that begs you to explore it, Horizon Zero Dawn easily overcomes its few flaws and delivers a must-play game that, even this early into 2017, is a dead cert to be one of the best games of the year – perhaps even of the generation.
Sean Mesler · Mar 09, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Horizon Zero Dawn boasts a stunningly realized vision of the post-post-apocalypse, accompanied by a fascinating and chilling mystery surrounding the fall of civilization and surprisingly deep and strategic combat which combine to create one of the best new IP’s in years.
Nick Monahan · Mar 08, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Horizon: Zero Dawn is a game built around a steady momentum that’ll push you through the entire game without ever making you want to turn it off. It expounds on this generation’s affection for open-world collectibles by making each of them a joy to track down, it strips back bloated systems that don’t truly reflect the hunter-gatherer nature of the game to great effect and it manages to cut out its own distinct personality in a genre it could so easily have become lost in. Horizon: Zero Dawn is an essential purchase for anyone with a PS4. Not only does it show you what the machine is capable of from a technological perspective, but it also proves that there is so much more you can do in an open-world game – from a gameplay perspective – that everyone deserves to play it and see what they’ve been missing out on.
Dom Peppiatt · Feb 28, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Horizon Zero Dawn is a great choice for those craving action and adventure. With a terrific combat system, a strong female protagonist, and a deep pool of side content, it will surely go down as one of PlayStation’s star exclusives. This is the best looking game that I’ve seen on the PlayStation 4. On top of its visual brilliance, Horizon continues to excel with a great combat system and intriguing world full of opportunities for adventure.
Matt Buchholtz · Feb 22, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Ultimately, Horizon Zero Dawn is an absolutely fantastic game. It’s very polished, and comes with a compelling story, relatable characters, an absolutely fascinating setting, and top-notch gameplay. On top of that, its visuals will make you wonder if Santa secretly sneaked into your room to replace your PS4 with a gaming PC while you were asleep. It simply looks that good.
Giuseppe Nelva · Feb 22, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The Guerrilla Games developers have made sure that its game still feels unique by comparison, thanks to a vibrant world bursting with stunning detail, challenging robotic enemies, and a story that explores an uncivilized world in an inventive way. Some weak AI, awkward dialogue sections, and a prototypical open world framework are the game’s bigger faults, but they don’t weigh the game down to much or ruin the experience.
