  • The price tag might also be a turn-off for some. But if you’re looking for a hardcore, teamwork-oriented shooter that throws you into the heart of epic WW2 battles, Hell Let Loose might just be your next obsession. Just remember, soldier, most of the time you’ll feel like cannon fodder. But those rare moments when you feel like the hero of a war movie? Those make it all worth it.

  • Hell Let Loose does little to overcome the downsides of its realistic take on World War 2 and strategic gameplay, but manages to reap some rewards out of it as well.

  • Hell Let Loose is one that clearly has deeper sound engineering. Bullets fly by your head with a threatening whizz. Distant gunfire accurately places enemy locations, and nearby explosions are devastatingly chaotic. The audio is significantly additive to the experience, provided you have the headphones or sound system to take advantage of it.

  • Hell Let Loose is an intoxicating experience for those who welcome a battlefield where death has consequences, and communication is key to survival. If you can round up a group of friends all willing to persevere with the steep learning curve, and who don’t mind dedicating entire evenings to a few matches, prepare to be engrossed for hours on end.

  • So, as someone who has only ever played fast-paced arcade-style shooters, did I enjoy Hell Let Loose? At first, no. But as I played more matches I slowly became more invested in the fact that I was in a war, not a 15-minute multiplayer game. Hell Let Loose can often feel slow-paced and tedious, but if you’re a strategic thinker looking for rewarding and realistic gameplay, then this could be the game for you. If you’re looking to rack up as many kills as possible in a short amount of time, stick to Call of Duty.

  • Hell Let Loose is one of the most unique and fulfilling first-person shooter experiences that a console player can have. Its deep strategy metagame and intricate mechanics can be intimidating to new players, but if you stick with it and give it the time it needs, Hell Let Loose will reward you with emergent and unforgettable moments.

  • Hell Let Loose does that about as well as other Battlefield-like milsims, but it's also really similar to a few other games that have been around longer, and I'm not sure the audience for the niche genre can support them all. I think Squad will continue to be the milsim I come back to every few months, but if straightforward WW2 action is what I'm after, Hell Let Loose is a worthy option.

  • The overall gameplay is great and with the many classes available, you will always find something that suits you. In terms of online shooters, this is one we can recommend, especially when you can add some friends to the equation.

  • Now, getting to the main question that you would probably ask: “Is Hell Let Loose worth the price?” Well, it depends. If you are a patient gamer against minor bugs and issues, and you love hardcore games, then you should get it. On the other hand, if you think you might not like the realism of the game or you don’t have any squads, then you’d better wait for a free weekend opportunity or a discount on the price.

  • Hell Let Loose demands commitment, cooperation, and enough patience to learn the game through several hours of painful, frequent death and have a genuine willingness to contribute to a squad instead of being a lone hero. Meet these requirements and you’re in for a singular and memorable battlefield simulation.

About the game

You've never played World War 2 the way it was meant to be played... with lumbering tanks dominating the battlefield, crucial supply chains fueling the frontlines, being a cog in the machine of colossal combined arms warfare. Hell Let Loose puts you in the chaos of war, complete with deep player-controlled vehicles, a dynamically evolving frontline, and crucial platoon-focused gameplay that commands the tide of battle. This is a simulation of war... not an arcade arena shooter.
