- Haven is absolutely worth playing, especially with a partner. Its story is beautiful, engaging, and authentic. Its storytelling sets a clear benchmark in realistically portraying relationships in video games. I do wish Haven’s gameplay reached the incredible standards set by its story, but even a few blemishes can’t completely tarnish such a unique experience.
Scott MacDonald · Feb 23, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Haven is a beautiful game about a relationship that is best in its quiet moments. The conversations and tenderness between Yu and Kay, its two leads, are the lifeblood of the game, and everything else is secondary. Its interesting combat system would benefit from a bit more signposting, and the flying traversal is a fun sci-fi addition to the game that works more often than it doesn't. Still, it's a wonderful experience, especially in co-op, but perhaps one to get on sale.
Kate Gray · Feb 21, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Haven is a noteworthy story that defines what it is like to find your home with your loved one. Yu and Kay have their ups and downs, but Haven shows that love conquers all hardships. The game is about exploring and finding new places, and of course being free to love whoever you want.
Stephanie Sung · Feb 19, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - It feels good to see a relationship that comes across as more mature and developed in a video game. Something that isn’t there to satisfy people that ship in-game characters or gives them additional stats, but two characters that live together and struggle together.
Willem Hilhorst · Feb 04, 2021 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Although I generally had fun with Haven, I found the later part of the game very repetitive and sluggish. A particularly demoralizing moment came after I realized there was an achievement for dying less than three times in the whole game, something easily doable if only I hadn’t been dying on purpose to fast travel back to the ship. You see, the only way to do so otherwise is to find certain spots where a friendly creature will take a piece of food to fast travel. These spots appear only in certain areas, without map indicators for reference.
Noparg · Dec 24, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The game finishes with a choice about how to proceed. Having played both, I can say that rather refreshingly neither of them ends as you would expect them to and that a key message of Haven is that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.
Harm0nica · Dec 21, 2020 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Haven is a game set on a beautiful world with lovable protagonists and compelling villains, but it suffers from frustrating design issues and the game ends on a flat note.
Robert N. Adams · Dec 21, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Yu and Kay have become two of my favourite characters this year, and even now I can’t help wonder where they will go next. Exploring Source is an exercise if joy, even when we have to repeat sections a few times, and there always feels like there is something else to find or see. It could have been a tad shorter, but when what’s here is this enjoyable I’ll allow it!
Jamie Collyer · Dec 11, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Haven is a cute and enjoyable mix of light survival, light RPG, and serious romance novel. It's exactly the kind of game to play if you want to relax for a few hours and see adorable people being adorable. The surprisingly enjoyable RPG combat and gentle survival mechanics make the game feel more like a game, while at heart it is closer to a visual novel.
Chris "Atom" DeAngelus · Dec 11, 2020 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - A relaxing adventure that's at its best when focusing on the romance.
