- It’s a pretty competent action game with really great visuals, but marred by quite a few flaws. If you don’t like playing with keyboard and mouse, then steer clear, but if you don’t mind putting your controller aside, and you enjoy the genre, it can be worth quite a few hours of your time. I didn’t hate Hatred, but I didn’t really love it either. Yet, it’s a pretty promising debut for a new indie team.
Giuseppe Nelva · Jun 12, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Hatred is a subpar twin stick shooter whose only claim to fame is its Adults Only rating from the ESRB. The novelty of the rating and some good destruction tech does not make up for the coated-in-molasses control, idiotic AI, and feeling of unease the game puts forth. Worse yet, the game is boring, repetitive, and simply not fun. Save your money for something with more substance.
Paul Sullivan · Jun 04, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There are a few things I enjoyed about Hatred, but its many and major flaws quickly turned it into a largely forgettable shooter that grew less and less interesting the longer I played. For those hoping for a game in which killing innocent people provides you with some sort of entertainment—be it humor, revulsion, guilt, a vicarious and morbid thrill—you can find it done better, in one way or another, in every other game I've mentioned in this review.
Christopher Livingston · Jun 04, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It’s just unremarkable, which is disappointing after all the remarks we all made about it. It’s just a game. It’s mediocre. It’s run of the mill. It’s another indie game that uses another established formula to give us a few hours of repetitive gameplay that may or may not be to your liking. It doesn’t do anything grand and innovative, but it also doesn’t do anything wrong or heinous outside of its own overhyped controversy.
Angelo M. D'Argenio · Jun 03, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Hatred is a game that basks in controversy for the sake of controversy, while doing nothing to keep the curious interested in seeing it through.
Daniel Perez · Jun 02, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Hatred is a marginal twin-stick shooter that rides the shock concept hard, and if you’re just looking for an angry protag-antagonist delivering deadpan death-lines as he dodges cop cars and fumbles changing guns, it might work for you. Not much else is here other than the novelty of the latest “ultraviolent” video game. It didn’t work for me, but I think Destructive Creations could tailor its twin-stick shooting chops into something interesting in the future.
Daniel Tack · Jun 02, 2015 Reviewed on PC - Hatred is too repetitive to be exciting, too dumb to be frightening, too basic for you to feel accomplished at its end, too dour to be violently cathartic, too self-serious to engender ironic amusement, and yet still too childish to matter. ...The fact that the final product fails even to be worth a primal psychotic scream of victory against society at large for the people it might encourage means it laughably fails even at being dangerous. Meaning, essentially, it's a nothing of a game.
Justin Clark · Jun 01, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In a world where SAW can be watched and Saints Row can be played, Hatred is nothing special. Nothing special at all. It’s not even especially gory – most of the executions are dreary.... Instead, we got a prosaic and outmoded little pile of cynicism. Perhaps worse than that – we got a damn boring game. The most enjoyable part of Hatred is when the protagonist grunts “try harder” at his wailing victims, only because it allows me to grunt back, “You first.”
Jim Sterling · Jun 01, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There's nothing really special about Hatred. It's a twin-stick shooter. It has guns in it. It has objectives. Most of the time those objectives involve acting like a menace to society or blowing stuff up. It doesn't have anything new to bring to the table, or anything interesting to say about the genre. You can go back to yelling at it now if you want.
Chris Carter · May 28, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In summary, it’s what I said in the teaser for this review, a “suicide-by-cop simulator” of the same level as the abominable Ethnic Cleaning. No doubt some would say it is a cathartic release that some in society will find of use, some will blame the ills of the world on it at some point (I’m looking at you red topped tabloid newspapers), I however will only give you my opinion of this game and leave it to you, the reader to make your own decision.
