- My only true complaint of the two games is the both felt too short. However, the price tag of $3.99 makes the purchase well worth the price. Whether a player has experienced the titles before or for the first time Gunman Clive HD certainly is a great game at the price it seems like a total steal. The HD port to the Nintendo Switch certainly was a great idea to move, it would be great to see more Gunman Clive games in the future.
Heath Shusterman-Zimmerman · Feb 20, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Gunman Clive HD Collection is memorable for its simplicity in approach, and that is matched by a wondrously captivating etched art style. While the developer has joked about how Gunman Clive had been overly reliant on beige, the nuanced sequel more readily splatters the surrounding world with oversaturated colours. Gunman Clive’s successor expectedly presents more scope in the areas that you wander, accompanied by a gentle soundtrack that doesn’t prove of detriment to the game’s overall style.
Alex Seedhouse · Nov 01, 2015 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - The original Gunman Clive is ridiculously short—maybe a half-hour long—but endlessly replayable with its different characters and difficulty settings. But it’s also fairly straightforward. Gunman Clive 2 is more colorful and diverse in its gameplay. There are several Star Fox-esque segments, a few horseback sequences, and at least one frustrating panda-based level. The sequel is more experimental, but also has a few too many “gotcha” moments that can be tiring.
Zachary Miller · Sep 03, 2015 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - All in all, Gunman Clive HD Collection is an absolute no-brainer. For the low price of entry, you are getting HD versions of not one, but two of the most impeccably-crafted action platformers of the last decade. They may be over a bit too soon and they may not always have the most fair level designs, but there's more than enough replayability here to cancel out both of these problems. Do yourself a favor and go download this game immediately.
Mitch Vogel · Sep 02, 2015 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Clocking in at just under 3 hours for a single play through, Gunman Clive HD Collection is a short yet charming experience on PS4. For the first game, the length isn’t so much a detriment because the game flows very quickly and is constantly fresh and fun. The remastered sequel is a far less enjoyable experience, doubling its length but containing some truly irritating or confusing sections.
Sean Davies · May 28, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Although in some regards a missed opportunity to celebrate the series with new content, Gunman Clive HD Collection is well worth its minuscule asking price, bringing together not only one, but two already classic-status titles from the portable world into one tasty - and delightfully gorgeous HD - package on Wii U eShop. It's one of the best 2D platformers currently on the market and a fantastic example of an indie hit.
Lex Firth · Dec 26, 2015 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - My only complaints about Gunman Clive HD Collection are small. I did experience one instance of a musical glitch, where the game seemed to overlay a song on top of another after dying. Also, besides the graphical and audio enhancements, the HD Collection doesn’t add any new content to the games. While someone like me, who has never played these on the 3DS, won’t mind this, veterans of the Gunman Clive series may have hoped for additional content.
