  • I really regret not playing Guacamelee when it first released, but from what I understand, the Super Turbo Championship Edition is a massive improvement of an already fantastic game. You can spend hidden silver coins and purchase new outfits that have different effects to give you a different experience (whether easier or more difficult), though I went through the entire game standard. The excellent platforming overwhelmingly overshadows the combat, but the total package is an outright joy to play. Taking me seven hours to beat the game (incompletely), it is on the short side, but the amount of fun you’ll have plus the $14.99 price tag will make it well worth picking up.

  • Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is a must have title. I found myself having a hard time putting this game down, because of the fun combat, unique world, and fun story. If you haven’t played this yet, you should, and if you have, now is the perfect time to pick up this fun metroidvania again, and revisit Juan’s adventures one more time.

  • Despite the passage of time, this colourful indie effort doesn’t show its age and fits the portability of Switch down to the ground. If you’ve played it already on Wii U there’s very little here to convince you to double dip (unless, of course, you’ve only played the 2013 version) - bar the ability to play in handheld mode - but if you’ve somehow missed this lovely luchador adventure, you’ll struggle to find a better platform to play it on.

  • Guacamelee 2! is everything one could ask for in a sequel. It packs in what everyone loved about the original, while building on it enough to make it well worth tagging into the ring for once again. Killer tunes, well-designed combat, and challenging bosses are all high points for a game that had a tough act to follow.

  • In the end Drinkbox studios took an already great game, and made it that much better. So lace up your boots, pull on your mask, and dive head-first into the action! This is a must-buy that will be enjoyed by all. ARRIBA!

  • All of the tweaks and additions – no matter how minor – help to make Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition the definitive version of an already excellent game. ...If you’ve never played Drinkbox Studios’ delicious platformer before, then this is the best place to start. And, while we’d never recommend double-dipping a nacho in real life, we certainly encourage it with this super-charged adventure.

  • Guacamelee is a fusion of intense platforming and beat-em-up combat, framed in Metroidvania conventions and topped off with a memorable cast, distinct setting, a stellar soundtrack, and zesty humor. These ingredients combine to make for a flavor that’s genuinely fresh and incredibly satisfying. If you’ve had a taste of this delicious entre before and are wondering whether Super Turbo Charged Edition spices things up enough to warrant seconds, the answer is yes.

It does a lot of interesting things, and certainly offers up a good challenge. The dialog is clever, and uses many pop culture and video game references that made me smile. That, along with the wonderful art style and fantastic soundtrack, makes it a very good deal for only $15. It has some big difficulty spikes, but overall Guacamelee is still a very fun time.

  • If you don’t enjoy witty humor but love platform games, Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition is a must play as well! Seriously though, go play this.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition isn't a vapid rebranding or a blatant cash-in, but a welcome infusion of the original game with new areas, monsters, and bundled-in DLC. ...Guacamelee! was one of last year’s finest games, and now it's one of PlayStation 4's, Xbox One's, Xbox 360's, and Wii U's best, too.
