- Overall, Grim Dawn is a game that is more than the sum of its parts. Its graphics, story, and music are not particularly impressive, but its combat is so masterful that it elevates it over almost all of its contemporaries. Those who were interested in a new ARPG title have probably already purchased it, but those that are still on the fence rest easy. This is a title that is worth its full price.
Patrick Perrault · Apr 20, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Grim Dawn can be like pulling the lever on a slot machine, the only difference being that the reward here isn’t cash but the gory explosion of beasts and the clink of loot-drops. I know from personal experience that this game has that certain something, and even if you think that you've grown tired of games of its ilk, Grim Dawn has enough tricks up its sleeve to charm even the most grizzled veteran.
Brett Todd · Apr 07, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Grim Dawn is a familiar, yet satisfying romp through a role-playing genre that's seen its fair share of innovations and dynamic methods to shoot and loot. Its setting is a nice change from the usual fantasy titles and its features and content are more than enough to keep you entertained for quite some time.
Kai Powell · Apr 02, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - All in all, Crate Entertainment should be applauded for not only pulling off making a fun and deeply satisfying game, but recreating the feel of an old-school isometric RPG with its own personality. Though it may not look pretty, it has a charm reminiscent of Diablo II and Diablo. I felt a nostalgic dread turning each corner and felt jubilation in defeating each boss; that is something that can’t be recreated with fancy visuals and flashy skills alone.
David Soo Chan · Mar 12, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Grim Dawn is both empowered and chained down by its retro stylings, preventing, say, the randomized levels of Diablo III and thus its endless potential for replay. But on the upside, none of its recent competitors deliver that old-style hack-and-slash experience so purely and so satisfyingly, and its hybrid class system makes each new jaunt a little different.
Leif Johnson · Mar 12, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Grim Dawn is one of the best action-RPGs out there, combining excellent hack and slash action with a world and progression curve that makes it worth fighting through. Alone or with friends, it’s hour after hour of top quality combat and looting, with the promise of many more excellent dark times to come.
Richard Cobbett · Mar 07, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There is no question that Grim Dawn moves along familiar lines: Base classes, a tragic world inhabited by monsters in a wide variety of flavors, nearly constant loot drops, action-oriented combat, somewhat "lite" yet interesting story, etc. Somehow, though, Grim Dawn just does it better than any other ARPG in recent memory.
Suzie Ford · Mar 02, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - This is a fine piece of software, just one that isn't that entertaining, and which lacks that feeling of progression that ARPGs need in order to be immersive. You'll find better gear, unlock new skills, and become more powerful, but it doesn't matter because enemies always catch up with you by leveling-up accordingly.
Athanasios · Feb 22, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - With the recent update of many of the game’s visuals to even further sell the story through the environment, and a bewitchingly fitting soundtrack, Grim Dawn is one of the easiest ARPGs to recommend in recent years. It’s every bit as beautiful to behold and fun to play as it is sombre and brutally difficult. If it weren’t for the occasional desync issues in multiplayer (an issue I expect will get some love post-launch), Grim Dawn, with all its story and diversity of supported playstyles (in addition to its full mod support) would be just about the perfect A-to-B ARPG.

Trailers & Screenshots:
Grim Dawn is an action role-playing game intended for digital distribution on the PC. It is being developed by veterans of Iron Lore entertainment, the makers of Titan Quest. Grim Dawn is being built with Crate's own improved version of the Iron Lore engine and toolset; the same technology used to create Titan Quest. As a spiritual successor, Grim Dawn will attempt to better perfect the magical formula of exploration, character advancement, and loot collection pioneered by Diablo.
