- Despite lacking some gameplay depth of its predecessor, Gatling Gears dishes out the kind of frenetic action any good dual-stick shooter should, and it does so with great flair. Were it not for the tremendous sense of setting the game’s back story and presentation lay out, the experience might fall short
NATHAN MEUNIER · Sep 17, 2011 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Boredom is the one thing preventing Gatling Gears from being a perfect top-down shooter for a new generation. It has a really solid system built into a nice-looking environment with a decent story, and its only real downsides are the parts that drag
Angelo M. D'Argenio · Jun 28, 2011 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Gatling Gears definitely pays homage to shooter games of yesteryear. Satisfying action and a fun cooperative experience make the game a blast to play, but a short lived campaign and frustrating difficulty hold the game back from being perfect. While Gatling Gears does a lot of things right, it doesn’t do anything that hasn’t already been done before
Jason Jasicki · May 24, 2011 Reviewed on X360 - Though Gatling Gears adheres unerringly to the dual-stick formula, it really nails the execution. This is a lengthy endeavor that you'll want to come back to again and again
Game Trailers · May 13, 2011 Reviewed on X360 - That said, I had a lot of fun with the first 75 percent of the game and the last bit is only a dip in enjoyment rather than a complete drop off. I’m looking forward to seeing what Vanguard comes up with next, within or outside of the Mistbound world
Bryan Vore · May 13, 2011 Reviewed on X360 - Gatling Gears isn't without a few dents in its shell, however. The length of some levels can start to grate at times, and the number of things happening onscreen can be very distracting,....Well-designed stages, fun gameplay mechanics, and frantic co-op play combine to make a game that stands well above many of its peers in the genre
Heidi Kemps · May 12, 2011 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Whether or not it is worth that price for you simply depends on how much you like twin-stick shooters and if you have a potential co-op partner to enjoy the game with. After playing through the game once and finishing all of the survival maps, you can take your fully upgraded walker into a higher difficulty if you please
Maurice Tan · May 08, 2011 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Gatling Gears offers several hours of enjoyable carnage and it’s doubly fun with a friend, but it settles into a routine early on and sticks to it. You wouldn’t want to plow through the whole game in one sitting - it’s long enough that most would find that difficult - but that doesn’t excuse a lack of variation that causes it to feel formulaic by the end. Is it worth the money? That’s a difficult question, because your perception of value depends on more than just the quality of the game.
Alan Williamson · May 18, 2011 Reviewed on PCRead full review - By bringing nothing particularly new to either genre that it borrows from, Gatling Gears fails to justify its inflated price of 1200 Microsoft Points, and is far from an essential purchase. If you fancy a bullet hell shmup or a twin stick shooter, Xbox Live Arcade and other such digital storefronts are hardly running low on stock
