  • At $11.99, Fractured Soul may seem a bit pricey for a Nintendo eShop downloadable game, and given the difficulty it certainly won’t appeal to everyone. That being said, Fractured Soul offers a lot of replay value, and with over 30 levels to navigate, online leaderboards, and unlockable challenges, there are many hours of entertaining, challenging, and addictive gameplay that the hardcore platforming fan should not miss out on.

  • Fractured Soul might have taken a while to see a release, but it lives up to the hype by taking a smooth platforming experience and weaving a dual screen play mechanic into the mix that greatly increases the playability and charm of the game. The price is a bit high by eShop standards, but for a gaming experience as rich and polished as this, it's not the deal breaker you might imagine. Those who aren't sold on the genre may wish to look elsewhere, but fans of intelligent action platformers will consider this money well spent.

  • Fractured Soul's biggest issue, however, is the obvious lack of personality. We never felt attached to the game's protagonist, and the barebones presentation puts this title well behind the classic hits it seemingly emulates, namely Mega Man and Metroid. As for the cost, $12 is a lot of money for a downloadable 3DS game, especially one that doesn't necessarily put its best foot forward.

  • Fractured Soul would have been tolerable if we'd been able to tackle sections over and over again until we got them right, but on certain levels the game throws you all the way back to the start of a level if you die. If you have the patience, Fractured Soul is a must-buy for the Nintendo 3DS, with lots of clever platforming throughout. But anybody with even a slight tendency for rage may want to take a dozen deep breaths before taking the plunge.

About the game

The game takes place in the deep and cold parts of outer space. The main character Jake Desaul, a rogue who travels between planets, finds himself stuck in this hellish part of space. In order to escape the space station he must confront his inner demons from his past. Not much is known about Desaul as a character, rather he is a man with a very mysterious past. While in the space station, Jake must use his curiously handy ability to split into two physical bodies in order to solve the various puzzles that are in store for him.
