- There’s a Pokémon undercurrent to Fossil Fighters Frontier that’s hard to shrug off, although it’d be unfair to not appreciate that it does enough to strike out on its own accord. But Fossil Fighters Frontier doesn’t manage to deliver an impactful experience, and it could even take a leaf out of Digimon’s playbook to make it more memorable. Those with a fondness for dinosaurs will still find enough to enjoy, but for everyone else, Pokémon remains the better choice.
Alex Seedhouse · Jun 01, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - It was the same old battles, I just didn't have any direct input anymore, which was fine, because the game was completely competent playing itself. ...Fossil Fighters: Frontier, isn't a great game. It might be a great game if you're under the age of 10, and you have some previous knowledge of the Fossil Fighters franchise. However, kids accustomed to Pokemon and its streamlined gamelpay, probably won't be swayed with cool Dinosaurs.
Mike Splechta · Apr 11, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Pace aside, Fossil Fighters Frontier does evolve into a fun and solid RPG adventure worth taking the time to dig up. Fortunately, even though the major elements are repetitive, they are simple and entertaining. The story is mostly cheesy but it frequently put a smile on my face and was a main reason that I wanted to keep playing.
Addison Webb · Apr 10, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - If you're looking for an accessible turn-based RPG that offers unpretentious gameplay and presentation, then you'll probably dig what it's got going for it; it's the kind of game that succeeds because all of its differing parts fit together harmoniously. Be warned that there are a couple troublesome difficulty spikes that could derail your fun if you're not expecting them, but proper preparation can iron out and neutralize those moments. Overall, Fossil Fighters: Frontier is too innocuous and likeable to stay mad at for long.
Dave Letcavage · Apr 04, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Overall, Fossil Fighters Frontier is best viewed as a roleplaying monster type game with a Jurassic Park feel, which is a good thing. Of course there is a targeted audience too, but it’s not just for kids, but those that are a kid at heart too. If you are new to the series do not worry, everything is explained and it is easy to pick up and play.
Mary Gushie · Mar 26, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - For a game that is clearly geared towards children, the difficulty spikes and grind in the later part of the game didn't really make sense.... Fossil Fighters: Frontier feels like a basic idea of a game surrounded by hours of repetition just to artificially extend the length. The battling isn't fun, the driving is dull, the graphics aren't easy on the eyes, the story is predictable, the characters are all tropes based on their ethnicity; in the world of Fossil Fighters: Frontier entertainment is extinct.
Jed Whitaker · Mar 24, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - There are definitely plenty of similarities when comparing it to Pokémon, yet labelling Fossil Fighters Frontier as a clone would be perhaps a little too harsh. Its developers have made genuine attempts to spice up the JRPG blueprint with vehicles, mini-games, and other interesting features. However, many of these feel tacked on with no real impact on the overall experience.
Jim Hargreaves · May 28, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Fossil Fighters Frontier is a boring take on the excellent idea of dinosaurs fighting each other. The repetitive nature of digging up fossils and the plodding pace of the battles does not make for an interesting game at all. Kids do love repetition, but I doubt many will stick with this for long, especially when they could be playing Pokemon.
Nick Gillham · May 28, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - All in all, Fossil Fighters: Frontier surprised me. It’s not a hard game, it’s not a memorable game, but it’s very solid. Collecting fossils may become a bit monotonous at times, but battling Vivosaurs always feels fun and fresh. The graphics are a bit lacking in certain areas, and the game is geared towards a younger audience, but there is a good bit of fun to be found in the game.
