  • The open world, drive anywhere experience is the real change-up to Forza‘s past

  • You can tune up or down the simulationist aspects of the game to your choosing, just like you could in previous Forza titles, and this can give the game a bit more of a "hardcore" feel if you are into that sort of thing. But even the story and environment of Forza Horizon are geared toward players who prefer a more laid back approach to the racing genre.

  • At the end of the day Forza Horizon is the racing game I have been wanting for quite some time and Playground Games should be commended. With a good mix of simulation and accessibility, new open road exploration, the freedom to get away from closed tracks, and some great visuals and sound, I found I could not stop playing and neither will you.

This may be Playground’s first time behind the wheel, but it feels like a champion is in control

  • Clearly, then, Forza needn't worry about its personality crisis any more, though Forza Horizon isn't a game that needs tedious cut-scenes to force a narrative; the road will do that on its own. Who needs a clumsy virtual love interest when you've got a Pagani Zonda in the garage?

  • Forza Horizon does more for the Forza franchise than it does for the open-world racing genre. It shows off the freer side of the series with high-production visuals and music, though it sometimes tries too hard to be cool and could have included a stronger range of content and weather effects. Still, as a casual departure, Forza Horizon deftly navigates the world between technical and casual racing, and is worth well more than the usual test drive.

  • When it comes down to it, some automotive enthusiasts just want to jump into the car of their dreams and go for a long drive through the country, and Forza Horizon delivers that simple pleasure on a silver platter. The fact that a solid racing game is included doesn't hurt either.

  • It's got a cockpit view, but it also gives you points for smashing through street signs and performing totally sick J-turns. That might sound like a contradiction that would cripple a game, but Horizon manages to make all of these different elements fit together in a way that seems natural. And that's pretty impressive.

  • Horizon may not be the natural successor to Forza 4, but it manages to steer the franchise in a fresh and entertaining new direction
