- From uncovering the remnants of an ancient civilisation to swerving through caverns overflowing with molten lava, forma.8 is a breathtakingly beautiful game that will astound at regular intervals. It’s the wondrous sense of discovery that sees it succeed, muddled in with some particularly exceptional puzzles.
Alex Seedhouse · Oct 08, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Forma.8 is a very interesting game. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it at first, but as I progressed and discovered new things it made me want to keep exploring the dark, mysterious world within. The gameplay is a bit slow and there’s not a ton of content but it’s definitely worth checking out.
Kaelyn Daugherty · Sep 15, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Solid and definitely has an audience. There could be some hard-to-ignore faults, but the experience is fun.
Kevin McClusky · Aug 24, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - forma.8 takes the foreboding and desolate landscape and gear-gating of obvious inspiration Metroid and adds its own unique spin to it. From the floaty and endearing orb you play as to the design and structure that makes players feel like they are finding new things organically, it takes a genre formula and makes it its own. If you’re looking for an adventure that is filled with inventive discovery, a sense of lonesomeness and a gorgeous world to behold, forma.8 is not to be missed.
Matthew Mason · Aug 24, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - All in all, forma.8 is a game that presents a lot of very fresh concepts that absolutely deserve to be explored further. My issues with its combat system didn’t become a real problem until late in the game, and even then it was generally relegated to short encounters that I’d have to retry a couple times. On the other hand exploration, while at times confusing, was never short on awe inspiring moments.
John Rairdin · Aug 24, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The game looks breathtaking, especially if you appreciate minimalistic vector graphics, and the music is a joy to listen to. As a fan of Metroidvania games, I’m sad to see the lack of them in the App Store, so forma.8 GO is a pleasant surprise in recent weeks.
Christine Chan · Jun 21, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - forma.8 GO contains all of the things you'd expect in a great metroidvania-style game, but the pieces here don't come together in a way that is satisfying. Although beautiful, the game's minimalist style and floaty controls really hamper your enjoyment of the things you come to these kinds of games for.
Campbell Bird · Jun 15, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Forma. 8 is a great exploration title that does occasionally fall into familiar 'metroidvania' traps. Providing secrets to uncover and challenging boss battles, those looking for a gorgeous world to roam around in will find plenty to enjoy here.
Ollie Reynolds · Mar 08, 2017 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Forma.8 is a great new entry to a familiar genre. Its gameplay is solid, if not a little frustrating at times, but its great sound design and brilliant aesthetic really sets it apart from the crowd. It’s incredibly polished and well-made, and only truly suffers from not doing enough new with the genre. I look forward to seeing what Mixed Bag does next and hopefully they employ this polish and presentation to other genres.
Sean Mesler · Mar 01, 2017 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - MixedBag’s approach to a Metroidvania-styled explorer-type game is an admirable one. While it may not be for everyone — the lack of combat or worthwhile progression upon item acquisition the greatest doubts for anyone on the fence — it would be misleading to suggest Forma.8 is entirely without spots of pure, empty space that even more exploration-orientated folks may lose intrigue in from time to time.
