  • When that escapism is taken away, all that's left is a sub-par minigame collection that isn't even as good as the individual games it cribs from – and it's a lot more expensive, too. We get the impression that the sole reason this game exists is to capitalise on the fact that the Switch has such a large market share.

  • From a presentation perspective, Five Nights at Freddy’s hits all the right notes with its ‘less is more’ approach. The lack of music leaves plenty of breathing room for the silence to seem very loud indeed, while the ambient noises, footsteps, and soft laughter are sure to set you on edge. Similarly, there’s not much going on visually, as you’re functionally spending the entire game flipping between a collection of still images, but the environmental design is on point in how it conveys a creepy and derelict place crawling with killer machines.

  • The game is undoubtedly original and has creepy graphics and an eerie atmosphere. You will need to use your brain and reflexes and make sure you're safe all night.

  • You need to plan a strategy at the very moment they’re coming to close for your taste, but have to always keep in mind that when you run out of electricity, the game – and your life – is over. That will put some pressure on ya. Overall, the sense of being hunted is very well produced by the developers and it’s good to see more people can enjoy this creepy horror game. If you like creepy horror games, that is.

  • Whether Five Nights At Freddy's clicks for you or not is heavily reliant on how well it manages to shake you. If the atmosphere doesn't get to you, all that's left is a very simple game of red light-green light. ...If you're just going to play it on the bus or something, you're probably better off spending the weekend at Bernie's instead.

  • Five Nights at Freddy's may not seem like much of a game, and indeed, aside from the appearance of Foxy, the animatronic beast that awakens on night three, there are no real surprises once you've mastered the particulars and have died frequently enough. ...The real miracle here is that the game communicates its gut-wrenching horror without a single drop of blood, yet still belongs in the upper echelon of horror games.

  • So if you’re curious about this game after hearing about it over the past few weeks, or even just am wondering why this game with the ugly bear icon is so high up in the charts, check it out. It’s a brilliant horror experience.

  • Five nights At Freddy’s is not a game for everyone. Unfortunately it has very little to no replay value even if you include the 7th custom night where you can change the difficulties of the automatons. At first glance the atmosphere, sound design and graphics combine in a ghoulish way to make you afraid of your own shadow. The game does this well, but where it is let down is the fact that apart from the oppressive atmosphere, the main thing the game has going for it is jump scares.

  • While it’s extremely easy to be hyper-critical of Five Nights at Freddy’s, dismissing it nothing more than an interactive collection of cheap jump scares, that reductive analysis crucially sells short one of the things the game does so very well: inspiring a creeping sensation of true vulnerability and helplessness. And that, my friends, is from whence good horror is born.

  • Genius design and a good understanding of how to induce fear puts Five Nights At Freddy’s miles ahead of its small-budget horror peers. Clunky camera movement takes the mobile port down a notch from the PC version, though.

About the game

Welcome to your new summer job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, where kids and parents alike come for entertainment and food as far as the eye can see! The main attraction is Freddy Fazbear, of course; and his two friends. They are animatronic robots, programmed to please the crowds! The robots' behavior has become somewhat unpredictable at night however, and it was much cheaper to hire you as a security guard than to find a repairman.

Developer: Scott Cawthon
