- It takes a lot for a roguelike to feel truly fresh on Switch, but Fights in Tight Spaces does a great job of taking a well-worn format and making it feel just that. The turn-based combat means you’ll constantly be weighing up the right strategy while the unique difficult levels mean that completing your first run is only the start of the fun. Though it isn’t quite optimized for the Switch, it still looks and plays very well.
Trent Cannon · May 24, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Fights in Tight Spaces is an easy recommendation to any kind of gamer. It’s perfect for those new to deck-builders or for genre veterans who crave something with a different flair. Fighting game enthusiasts will enjoy the take on strategic brawls that don’t skimp on the style. As for everyone else? Who can say no to glorious aesthetics and surprisingly cerebral gameplay in a bloody beatdown package? Definitely give Fights in Tight Spaces a shot — it’s a knockout!
Heather Johnson Yu · Jan 28, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - We’re only a week into 2022, but I’m extremely happy to be starting my year off with a game as fun and well put together as Fights in Tight Spaces. Though it occasionally feels like a bit of a grind, the focused gameplay and pleasing visual style make this a great game for players to come back to over and over.
Quinn Levandoski · Jan 09, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It’s fun, it’s replayable, it’s frustrating as all hell when you just can’t get the right movement card to get out of a sticky spot, and it keeps drawing me back in to prove that I’m not a loser. I may keep getting killed during missions, but I’m doing it with style, and that’s all anyone can ask of me. Okay, they can ask that I complete the mission and not die, but hey. Baby steps.
Oliver Shellding · Dec 06, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Against popular thinking, the slower, methodical pace of Fights in Tight Spaces recreates that feeling of systematically dismantling a room full of goons that all the best action movies present so well, and that video games often struggle to properly simulate. The blend of tactical movement and positioning adds depth where the fairly limited deck synergy lacks it. And while the overarching progression can feel like an arduous grind at times, the compelling pugilistic dance in each isolated skirmish stays rewarding from the very first punch.
Jarrett Green · Dec 04, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Fights in Tight Spaces is one of my favorite strategy games of the year. The compelling blend of action movie sensibilities and big-brain strategic overtures means I’m struggling to put it down, and if you’re a fan of Slay The Spire or Monster Train, this is every bit as bruising a strategy game, and easily as replayable.
Jake Tucker · Dec 03, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Fights in Tight Spaces scratches an itch that I never even knew I had. The card battling system is excellent and easy to understand, the roguelike structure is laid out beautifully, the visuals are neat, the soundtrack is a low-key banger, and there are new challenges every day. This is without even mentioning that I don't know when or if I'm going to be able to discover every card in this game.
Ozzie Mejia · Dec 02, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It’s by no means a deal breaker, but this slightly haphazard implementation of the in-game economy sticks out among the exceptionally polished combat and clean visuals.
Dashiell Wood · Dec 02, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Fights in Tight Spaces is a stylish roguelike deck-builder that uses a clever resource system to back up some truly satisfying cardplay. While the amount of content is fairly light in its current Early Access state, what’s there is fun, entertaining, and polished.
Kristian Longden · May 26, 2021 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The game is a strategic semi-deckbuilding puzzling game where you need to use your cards to either move around or beat up baddies. Where Fights in Tight Spaces perhaps lacks in explosivity, it brings a different kind of tension. Each fight you are set in a space with little room to move, and you get a selection from your deck of cards. The tension comes from using your cards in a way so you don’t get smacked around by everybody in the room.
