  • Even if online competition doesn't interest you, Fight Night Champion is a great game that has a lot to offer. The story-driven Champion mode is an entertaining addition to the series, and once you get into the Legacy mode you might find that it's hard to put down your controller even after you've spent dozens of hours using the same fighter.

  • Fight Night Champion has a lot of style. The presentation is excellent, the story is manageable at worst and engaging at best, the gameplay is rock solid, and the graphics are outstanding. That being said, legacy mode is a complete waste, newcomers will be frustrated at fighting seasoned veterans of the series, and the commentating is awful. There's some potential staying power here and if you really work hard at it, you can find yourself playing and enjoying Champion for quite some time.

  • Without the new Champion Mode, it would have been yet another successful installment under EA’s belt. But thanks to the game’s new Champion Mode, Fight Night Champion brings passion back to the sport of boxing and makes for the most entertaining sports game of all time. Fight Night Champion is a knockout, hands down. Everything else, is down for the count.

  • This well-conditioned sequel supplements its pumped-up-but-authentic treatment of boxing as a sport with a playable story that delivers drama and emotion. Anyone who enjoys a good one-on-one battle should be able to appreciate its playability, longevity, and the hard-hitting spectacle it delivers. With Fight Night Champion, the series has gotten leaner and smarter, and has packed on the features. In short, it puts in the effort to live up to its name.

Fight Night Champion gets the boxing right and adds a flawed but enjoyable story mode. I've always put a lot of stock in career modes, but Legacy mode here is just downright bad. The mini-games are too tough and get boring fast. The entire concept just seems off. What should greatly extend Fight Night Champion's playtime, made me like the game a lot less. Avoid the career mode, enjoy the story mode, and spend a few hours creating some dream boxing matches. That will make any boxing fan happy.

  • With online gyms comprised of your friends, smart gameplay changes, and improvements to Legacy mode, Fight Night Champion is more than your usual collection of modest EA Sports improvements. Some areas shine brighter than others, but the developer’s inspired Champion mode is the star feature that must be experienced.

  • In the single-player game, particularly with Bishop as a player, his combination of speed and power meant the power punches were effectively the only way to ensure fairly quick matches. In online, though, someone offering heavy offense will actually make quick work of someone who just tries to power through with wide hooks.

  • There's just not quite enough meat on Fight Night Champion's bones to recommend it to owners of previous games, however, and Champion mode itself is little more than a brief diversion you can bash through in an afternoon. The core mechanics still do a good job of imitating the sweet science, but EA could have done with a longer rest before getting back in the ring.

  • If dozens of hours doesn't sound like quite enough for you, the online versus is vast and robust, allowing for online ranking, title fights, online Gyms and daily cash tournaments. Due to a refined physics engine highlighting real-time bruising and flexing muscles, the streamlined yet involving Full-Spectrum Punch control, and the deep, though challenging Legacy mode that sports a detailed create-a-boxer, Fight Night Champion is the pinnacle of the franchise.

  • It's far from a revolution – much of the framework will be familiar to Fight Night fans – but as the best-looking and most technically accomplished game the series has yet produced, this evolution exceeds our expectations, without totally blowing us away. Fight Night Champion has both the guts and the glory, and if the online functionality compliments the excellent offline modes, then it's going straight to the top.
