- Essentially, enjoyment of Fifa 09: Ultimate Team will be decided by just how much you love the game it attempts to extend. The simplistic nature of card/sticker-trading has always been a big part of the developing football fan and Ultimate Team builds on that idea.
Sammy Barker · Apr 17, 2009 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - These are, of course, niggling errors that do little to hamper FIFA 09. The responsive controls, improved animations and mechanics, the new collision system, and the amazing Be A Pro mode all come together beautifully to create one of the best football games I've ever played and certainly the best in the series. In short, FIFA 09 lives up to its own hype.
Joseph Leray · Nov 13, 2008 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Blitz: The League II has succeeded where almost all other arcade sports titles have failed: It's an engaging single-player experience. Though the gameplay still shows some of the flaws and repetition of earlier Blitz titles, the over-the-top presentation will keep you thoroughly entertained or, at the very least, offended.
Jonathan Miller · Oct 23, 2008 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - As is usually the case, FIFA 09 is yet another sterling entry in their line of footie titles. Tweaks to gameplay and the silky smooth HD visuals do make for the most convincing offering yet. Nevertheless, the old mantra still applies: There aren’t enough new features to make this game substantially different from last year’s effort.
Jonathan Marx · Oct 14, 2008 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - FIFA Soccer 09 is the tightest playing football on the market and has definitely raised the bar for what Pro Evolution Soccer will need to accomplish to retake the crown this year. ...Animations look great, players behave properly and the AI has been tuned since last year’s effort. While not perfect, FIFA 09 should be a permanent fixture in anyone sports library.
Nate Ahearn · Oct 14, 2008 Reviewed onRead full review - Players will still hilariously fall over themselves for no apparent reason, falling victim it seems to the game's excellent physics. Crossing is a bit ropey, as it has been for a while. Yellow cards can sometimes feel like they're dished out too long after the offending foul. And to get a free kick in the first place you need to be physically assaulted, rather than fouled. But apart from those minor issues, we can't help but be incredibly impressed by FIFA 09.
Wesley Yin-Poole · Sep 30, 2008 Reviewed on PC, PS3, X360Read full review - There’s so much to see and do and everything is so well executed that it feels relatively cheap at the asking price. If you really are sitting on the fence as to what football game you should be buying then you really need look no further than FIFA 09. Even if you’ve bought PES for the last 148 years in a row, if you don’t give FIFA a look in, you really are missing out on something special. Can’t say more than that, can we?
Mike Bowden · Oct 20, 2008 Reviewed on PCRead full review - It feels like football, it rewards football, and it punishes football, for football reasons. It may not always be your brand of football, and you can ask for more, but only by degrees. The myth is dead. "Let's FIFA".
Tom Bramwell · Oct 03, 2008 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - That said, it doesn't stop FIFA 09 being the best game in the franchise to date. It's genuinely good enough that it might even convert diehard PES fans if Konami's update this year ends up being as lacklustre as last year's.
OXM Staff · Oct 02, 2008 Reviewed on X360 - FIFA 09 returns to the pitch full of swagger, and it does its very best to deliver on EA Sport’s promise of creating the definitive football title. An exacting game on the pitch and an overwhelmingly comprehensive one off of it, it’s still got a number of minor niggles that blight the play.
