- FIFA 16 has a few nice additions, but failure to fix some of the franchise’s ongoing problems, along with a massive focus on FUT leaves it feeling stale; especially seeing as PES seems to be scoring highly in reviews. My only fear is that with Konami allegedly moving away from console games, EA may continue the franchise without feeling the need to innovate and improve.
John Whitehouse · Oct 08, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Technical triumph aside, there's no denying EA's soccer goliath is resting on its considerable laurels. Between FIFA 09-12, each new entry introduced bold new revisions—think 360-Degree Dribbling and Tactical Defending—which had a transformative effect on the actual football year after year. Yet since moving to the Ignite engine, the series has effectively stood still. Is FIFA 16 still the best football sim you can buy on PC? Absolutely. Has it also utterly stagnated over the last two years? You can bet Diego Costa's hollowed out soul it has.
David Meikleham · Sep 29, 2015 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The inclusion of women’s soccer is a defining achievement for FIFA 16. And we should celebrate it. But, I don’t understand how EA thinks a half-baked Trainer mechanic, no-touch dribbling, some Ultimate Team additions, fog (yes, fog), German Bundesliga graphics, and a few other gameplay tweaks are enough to counter what Konami is doing.
Eduardo Moutinho · Sep 28, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - FIFA focuses on fewer aspects, only adding a few new things and sticking with their already solid gameplay. Both make tough cases, and it is obvious this has been the closest race to date. As a whole, FIFA 16 plays well and fantastic visual cues. It will be interesting to see how EA will be pushed to produce a winning title if PES continues to keep the pressure.
Devin Charles · Sep 24, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - A marked improvement over last year, but the absence of pace is sorely missed. FIFA 16 is not as good on the pitch as PES this year – again – but it’s a great football game regardless, with unrivalled off the pitch options.
Dan Webb · Sep 24, 2015 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - FIFA 16 stands as a high water mark for soccer games, and sports games as a genre. Its nicely balanced gameplay and innovative feature implementations reaffirm the franchise as an industry standard, and soccer fans everywhere are going to love it. Arguing about FUT draft or playing head to head online, this year is a great time to get the FIFA franchise or rediscover a forgotten friend. Put simply, there’s never been a better time to pick up the beautiful game.
Paul Sullivan · Sep 22, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - FIFA 16 is a beautiful game about the beautiful game. Driven by a need for authenticity, EA has created an unparalleled soccer simulation that improves upon FIFA 15 in every aspect. While the game’s elaborate controls and elite presentation still make it challenging for the uninitiated, steps have been taken to help welcome new players.
Matt Buchholtz · Sep 22, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - While an annual franchise, EA Sports has been very good about making each FIFA release worth buying and that is once again the case with FIFA 16. There are no absolute game changers in the gameplay, but there is just enough to make the gameplay more authentic than ever. Building off an already great game last year, the addition of Women’s National Teams, albeit limited in use, as well as the new FUT Draft easily make FIFA 16 yet another entry in this long running series that should not be passed.
Dean James · Sep 22, 2015 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - New moves threaten to weigh down FIFA’s snappy pace and breezy playability, but while slightly slower and more methodical, 16 plays a deeper, more balanced game of football.
Ben Griffin · Sep 22, 2015 Reviewed onRead full review - While it has been carried for the past few years on the new generation of consoles, PES has waited quietly in the wings, revolutionising its game. FIFA has aged rapidly this year thanks to Konami's offering. FIFA 16 does feel incrementally better than 15, but PES 2016 feels miles better than both. Again, it's such a shame because the version of FIFA I played at reveal was far better than what's on offer now.
