  • Overall, F.E.A.R. is a fun and great experience for anyone who hasn't played the game before. Anyone who's tried the game on the PC or Xbox 360 will immediately notice flaws and probably retreat to the previous versions, but the game still makes a nice addition to the PS3's growing library of ported titles.

F.E.A.R. isn't perfect -- there's glitches, watered-down graphics and crappy load times -- but it's still one of the best experiences I've had on a PS3 to date. The gameplay is solid and will serve as a treat to anyone looking for an entertaining shooter with an excellent multiplayer system.

  • Played that copy of Resident Evil 4 a few too many times? Weren't completely turned off to The Ring franchise after the second movie? Then, merry man of the macabre do we have a game for you. F.E.A.R. is the latest shooter from the fine people who brought us No One Lives Forever. Let's just say this game is a little less campy

  • The action in F.E.A.R. is relentless from start to finish, and the AI of enemy soldiers is about the best you'll find in video games at the moment. Bar an ending that will leave you wanting a lot more, there's little not to enjoy. If you aren't a PC gamer or your current rig simply can't handle F.E.A.R.'s particle effects, the Xbox 360 version is an excellent port, and the new arena mode is well worth investing some time in.

  • F.E.A.R. is a great port of an excellent game. If you missed it on the PC last year (i.e. didn’t have a machine up to snuff to run it), now’s your chance to play to best PC shooter that 2005 had to offer. F.E.A.R. is a creepy and atmospheric FPS with great survival horror elements as well as all out action. If you missed out on this game when it hit PCs last year, do not let it slip away this time.

  • F.E.A.R. is quite easily one of the most intense and atmospheric games on the Xbox 360, and it's an excellent blend of horror and action. F.E.A.R. features some of the best gunplay available in a first-person shooter. This alone makes it an incredibly intense game that must be experienced. The fact that it's also one of the creepiest games ever made is just icing on the cake.

  • Regardless, the core shooting action is so strong that these complaints fall by the wayside. F.E.A.R. is a game about shooting things, and once you get your hands on its triggers, you'll find that you won't want to let go.

  • FPS fans that are unfamiliar with F.E.A.R. on PC will find this to be one of the most engaging and entertaining entries into the genre. Players that have F.E.A.R. on monster rigs, on the other hand, have seen this all before outside of the few new modes and the two or three new weapons. F.E.A.R. on Xbox 360 gets high marks for atmosphere, graphics, and enemy A.I., but a stern finger-waving for a lack of a structured internet lobby or buddy system.

F.E.A.R. is great experience that isn't without its faults. The repetitive environments and less than ideal online and multiplayer situations are a letdown, for sure. F.E.A.R. has made it from the PC to 360 with everything that made it an outstanding experience along with a few new additions including the fantastic Instant Action mode, making it hard to lodge any huge complaints against the game.

  • F.E.A.R. is all about messing with your head in single player. If you aren't freaked out by the ambient noises and ghoulish aspects during the games "downtime" you'll be on the edge of your seat trying to stay alive during the extremely intense firefights. Since the fear you'll experience isn't the result of scripted or canned events, F.E.A.R. comes off feeling fresh and inspired even though it sometimes relies on parlor tricks to get the heart puming a little faster than usual.

About the game

The story begins when a paramilitary force infiltrates a multi-billion dollar aerospace compound, and the government responds by sending in Special Forces. The group loses contact with the government when an eerie signal interrupts radio communications--and when that interference subsides moments later, the team has been destroyed. That's where you come in. As part of a classified strike team created to deal with threats no one else can handle, your mission is simple: eliminate the intruders at any cost, determine the origin of the signal, and contain the potential crisis before it gets out of control.
