  • Fallout 4's core gameplay loop is still enough to hold everything together, even if the surrounding adventure is really showing its age, almost a decade after its initial release. A smooth 60fps performance mode is exactly what a lot of returning players will have wanted, and there's still fun to be had in roaming post-apocalyptic Boston — especially with the timeless V.A.T.S. system at the ready. But there's no looking past the fact that open world games have come a long way since Fallout 4 — a title that arguably felt outdated even back in 2015.

  • Suffice it to say, I’m looking forward to going back Far Harbor ASAP. This is nearly the new gold standard for how do DLC right. Bravo, Bethesda.

  • There is a lot to like about Fallout 4 , and no other franchise in gaming lets you do the things you can do out in the wasteland. However, by integrating a few systems from New Vegas, improving the gunplay, and calling it a day, Bethesda have created a lesser experience that may disappoint die-hard fans in the long run. The game ends with a generic cutscene depending on which faction you ally with, meaning that it is the first in the franchise to end without the slide show that tells you what each character’s future will bring.

  • Fallout 4 has all the hallmarks of greatness, and it's improved upon previous releases in the series, making use of current gen to deliver a far more cohesive mixture of RPG and FPS. No longer is it an RPG with shoddy, bolted-on FPS features, it's now a proper fusion of the two, a fusion that doesn't sacrifice the content we've come to expect from the immensity deep storytelling and world-building.

  • Fallout 4 might not reach the insane expectations of the hype that built it up these past few months but it undoubtedly comes closer than many other games that have been in the same predicament. Complex, full of depth and infinitely customizable, Fallout 4 manages to stand above its glitches and odd subpar animations to be an experience well worth having. Venture forth from Vault 111 and have a blast!

  • The occasionally extreme performance issues found in the console versions of Fallout 4 make those versions more difficult to recommend than their PC counterpart. As someone who has really appreciated this line of games in both its Fallout and Elder Scrolls flavors, Fallout 4 was still harder to swallow than I initially suspected it would be. It's another one of those games, for better and for worse.

Fallout 4 is once again another Bethesda game that people will talk about for numerous years. Just like with Skyrim, this game is open, full of mysteries waiting to be discovered, and open for a mod community that can bring it to life even more, and with Bethesda announcing mods coming to the consoles as well, there will be even more to see and do in the coming months.

  • Fallout 4 contains what should go down as the best open world in the history of this medium considering the sheer wealth of meaningful content packed into it. Some people flock to sandbox games in hopes of checking off boxes, collecting garbage and simply passing time, and Fallout 4 feels like the strongest middle finger to this contingent in years.

  • I probably can’t give a higher endorsement of Fallout 4 than this: I’ve spent around 50 hours playing between the console and PC versions, and I don’t feel like I’m anywhere near quitting. And that’s what we want from Fallout, right? A world we can dive into completely and spend days exploring. Well, if that’s what you come to Bethesda products for, you’re going to get it here.

  • Fallout 4 is a roaring response to criticism that the series has ignored its qualities as a shooter in favor of its deeper and stronger RPG roots. Nearly every design change in Fallout 4 poises the game as a more streamlined modern shooter with high production value across the truly open-world Commonwealth wasteland.
