- There's only one problem: Falling Skies can't seem to find a way to capitalize on its solid foundation. The upgrade and leveling up RPG/simulation mechanics are appealing, but really don't expand the scope of the game. And there's simply no radical gameplay twist on the genre to expand the game's horizons in the long term. The game essentially never truly grows beyond what is already apparent after just a few hours. If you're still loving it after 20+ hours of cautiously navigating urban ruins, accept that you may be a diehard fan of this type of gameplay. Less dedicated gamers will have lost interest long ago.
Carmine Red · Nov 18, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Falling Skies picked a fun, unique genre to hitch its wagon to, but it's woefully behind the curve. There’s not enough of the television series in it to make it interesting, and frequent strategists will breeze through it in a weekend. The end result is a game without an audience. TNT may know drama, but unless Capcom's secretly working on Rizzoli & Isles vs Phoenix Wright, it’s better off staying out of games.
Justin Clark · Oct 16, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Falling Skies is a turned based strategy game, and that is about the best thing that you can say about it. Competent yet wholly unremarkable, this is a title that fails to excite in any way and does nothing to distinguish itself from any of the other, similar titles on the market. The lackluster AI and the repetitive and dull missions make even the simplest of excursions mind-numbingly boring and an absolute slog to get through.
Nikola Suprak · Oct 10, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Falling Skies: The Game on Nintendo Wii U eShop is so lacking in every regard, and overall terribly bland, that it is easy to get distracted from actually playing it. Not from any sort of disorder but, rather, a desire to do something else just to relieve the boredom.
Ian Soltes · Dec 01, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Even through mimicking XCOM's tactical gameplay and utilizing the setting of the popular TNT series as a reference point for the campaign, Falling Skies: The Game feels about ten years too late to impress. Currently, there's nothing else that delivers a tactical shooter of this kind on Wii U, which is something of a selling point. Unfortunately what it delivers is a bland, watered-down version of the genre that even hardcore fans will probably want to stay away from.
Conor McMahon · Nov 07, 2014 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - If you can stomach Falling Skies’ horribly disfigured front-end, forgive the minor balance issues and imagine your way out of the tension vacuum, then there is a turn-based strategy game worth a rent here, but it will always be eclipsed in the memory of anyone who has enjoyed XCOM.
