  • The upside is that Fable Anniversary is still the same great old title it always was. The downside is it's still the same great old title it always was.

  • The whole game seems simple compared to its modern-day equivalents, but because those games have built on its formula and haven't yet replaced it entirely it feels more like a blueprint than a basic alternative. ...Fable Anniversary hasn't added much to the original formula save achievements and a harder 'Heroic Mode', but that's OK. Updated graphics, improved controls, and a new save system were all that was really needed to tweak Fable for modern players.

Fable Anniversary continues a solid tradition for Microsoft’s ‘Anniversary’ series, and I hope to see more in the future. Though I imagine I am the only one who wants to see Blinx the Time Sweeper or Voodoo Vince appear. It is still fantastic to see where the series started and how far it has come. It is also great to see how much influence this unique action RPG has had on current games in the genre.

  • These issues are so frustrating because of the bizarre, charming core that sits at the heart of the Fable series. If you could wade through the sometimes crippling issues present in Fable Anniversary, there's so much here worth exploring. But that's the thing. Lionhead themselves pushed forward into this territory much more successfully with Fable 2 and even Fable 3. This leaves Fable Anniversary a curiosity at best — and an infuriating disservice to the series' legacy at worst.

  • Comparing the negatives with the positives, I can only recommend this game after the price drops to a reasonable number. Although the graphics and the storytelling are spectacular, the rest of the presentation is problematic and shows its age. Fable is still a great game but one that deserved either a bit more of an upgrade or a realistic price point to justify it’s flaws.

  • These are the kinds of moments that make Fable Anniversary delightful. Its combat and world design have undoubtedly aged, but the game is so ripe with charisma, so upbeat that even its most somber moments don't suppress your soaring spirits for long. Fable isn't quite timeless, but its genial mood is infectious, and I'm happy that Fable Anniversary kept my fond memories intact.

  • Fable Anniversary is fun because Fable is fun. In fact, playing Fable again makes you realize how much more fun it is than most modern day RPGs. Even despite its flaws, both technological and conceptual, Fable captured what was fun about old school RPGs. It had breakable systems, an epic plot and an interesting world that you could lose yourself in. It wasn’t built on gimmicks or new gameplay systems or attempt to reinvent the wheel. It was just a good, solid fun RPG, and it remains so to this day.

  • Even after two sequels and console generations, Fable has the uncanny ability to suck you into its adventure through the world of Albion. Anniversary is more of a preservation if anything, ensuring that the entire franchise can now be played in the same manner on the same console. As a museum piece, it’s a wonderful effort that ensures the game will remain relevant for a new generation of players. As a game, it’s the definitive edition of a superb title that has a lot to offer even in 2014.

  • Even with its imperfections, Fable Anniversary is still the best available way to replay this classic. The development team has clear dedication to the source material. How that affection failed to transfer to the technical performance is a mystery, but Fable is still a great game, and Albion definitely looks better in this edition. As long as you don't expect anything more from Fable Anniversary, you won't be disappointed.
