  • Overall, Everspace: Stellar Edition is a fantastic addition to any Switch library. If you already like games set in space, this is a title that is beautiful visually, controls fantastically, and sports a fitting soundtrack to boot. There are plenty of missions to complete and the stealth aspect of the game, along with the ability to upgrade your ships, weapons and defence will provide you with plenty of reasons to keep playing for many, many hours.

  • With gratifying space combat, an addictive ‘rogue-lite’ core loop and even some light, entertaining writing along the way, it performs admirably – if not flawlessly – on Nintendo’s console. Overall, we had a hell of a time with it and this port does a cracking job of preserving the full experience on a handheld. If any of this sounds remotely enticing, we’d heartily recommend investigation.

  • I’m not even sure what could be done to improve the experience, as the entire rest of the game feels like it would be great on the console. I am sure there will be some that put enough time in to make the controls feel like second nature, but on a playthrough of a roguelike where small mistakes are punished, I felt frustrated more often than not that I was having a hard time just dog-fighting other ships.

  • Everspace: Stellar Edition isn’t the best 3D space shooter or roguelike available, but it’s a relatively unique and successful fusion of the two genres. Repetitiveness aside, you may just find yourself hooked by the game’s tight combat controls and satisfying progression loop. Unfortunately, the Switch isn’t the best way to play the game, unless portability is your top concern. Everspace for Switch isn’t for everybody, but if you fall into the game’s relatively narrow niche, a galaxy of die and retry fun awaits.

  • There's enough here to keep it interesting while never really doing enough unique things to keep me actively wondering what's going to happen next. While I might have aimed a little high with my expectations for Everspace, as a fan of the space combat genre, it ultimately is enjoyable. I don't think it's for everyone but that's the beauty of niche games like this, they don't have to appeal to everyone.

  • If you can get past Everspace’s few flaws, a game that merges the best parts of roguelikes and space shooters exposes itself. The game manages to stand on its own as a unique entity within both the above genres, so Everspace should have no problem finding an audience in the sea of modern roguelikes and space shooters.

  • If you’ve been following Everspace from the beginning and have just been waiting for the time when your PS4 can get it done, your patience has been rewarded. If you’ve never heard of Everspace and aren’t sure if it will play at your speed, give it a shot. Dollar to donuts: you’ll spend far too much time playing it.

  • With a gorgeous, ever-changing setting, unique and functional control scheme, and some fantastic roguelike elements, Everspace is an essential experience for fans of space shooters. While the narrative remains only mildly interesting, the presentation and gameplay more than make up for it with both fast-paced and perfectly executed dogfights and yet methodical scavenging segments reminiscent of our beloved Firefly (of which the pilot makes a reference to).

  • Everspace's rewarding and beautifully presented playground is further bolstered by engrossing background lore and a dedication to keeping its rogue-like elements entrenched within the game's universe, resulting in perhaps the least-meta game of its kind I've ever played. What it lacks in content variety and originality where story is concerned, is made up for by its sheer ability to keep me going for hours - "just one more run."

  • Fans of space shooters or of innovative roguelikes will find a lot to love in EVERSPACE. Its stellar presentation makes it one of the rare games that truly deserves to be called “immersive”, and from what I hear that’s only more true if you play it in VR (I don’t have a VR headset because I make game journalist money, but by all accounts it runs very smoothly on both the Vive and the Oculus Rift.) But it’s also a game that’s mostly about pixel-hunting on your radar for the closest crafting materials, a game where success depends on you repeatedly making the conscious choice to gather minerals. And that’s a choice I personally still have difficulty making.
