  • For the last few weeks, I’ve tried to figure out how this game can continue without a dual screen interface, and really, this is it folks. This series was intrinsically tied to Nintendo’s handheld, and if this is, in fact, the end of the series on the Nintendo 3DS, this game and franchise goes with it. Don’t miss your chance to play one of the best RPGs that the 3DS had to offer. One last time, gather your team, select your class, and explore, explore, explore. You won’t be sorry.

  • A culmination of most of the best things the series has done; great amount of options; great, player choice driven narrative; amazing dungeons. While some of its sense of celebration can feel dampened by sheer franchise fatigue, on the whole, Nexus does a great job of ushering out its series, as well as the hardware that it has been beholden to all this time.

  • Despite this, Etrian Odyssey Nexus is an excellent dungeon crawler, overland locations and all. It’s not only the perfect antidote to grimmer adventures but it’s an addictive, creative, appealing outing that will have you coming back for more and rarely regretting your return.

  • This is definitely the last EO game on the 3DS, and it has an air of finality to it that makes it feel like it could be a closer for the series as a whole--which I hope isn't the case. I'm ready for many map-making expeditions in the future. But if this really is the end, then Etrian Odyssey goes out on a high note.

  • Etrian Odyssey Nexus does an excellent job of celebrating all things Etrian in its own special way, and, while it definitely becomes infinitely more appealing to those who have played through the series, it’s set up in such a way that anyone with a knack for first-person dungeon crawlers can get into it. Between its expansive amount of content, deep levels of customization, and tough-as-nails approach to gameplay, Nexus is an excellent way to end the 3DS Etrian Odyssey saga. The series has done great things thus far, and I’m confident that it will only climb to greater heights when it re-emerges once more on a different system.

  • We’d recommend Etrian Odyssey Nexus to both longtime fans and newcomers looking to see what all the fuss is about; this is one of the deepest and most involved RPGs you’re likely to find on the 3DS, and it stands as a compelling reason to dust off Nintendo’s handheld once more.

  • Etrian Odyssey Nexus does a fantastic job weaving stand-out elements from the series into a compelling package. There's enough difference to keep fans interested throughout the lengthy, 50-ish hour campaign, but it's balanced enough to make it welcoming for newcomers as well. Nexus might stumble in a few places, but it's difficult to imagine a better send-off for the franchise on the 3DS.

  • Not rocking the boat is actually a great way to sum up Etrian Odyssey Nexus. Atlus didn't set out to create a new, series-defining game with this entry, but rather a recap of the everything that's come before it. Being able to replay my favorite classes from the past is a treat, but it's really that spirit of adventure percolating through the entire package that has me hooked.

  • There’s something incredibly satisfying about creating a map and feeling as though the exploration is just as important as the combat when every little thing matters. It’s often difficult to overcome some of the monsters in the ruins, but it’s all a matter of trial and error to see what works best and how to conquer each challenge as it comes. Etrian Odyssey Nexus is a great time for those who want a long journey that will always keep them on their toes.

  • For newcomers, the only barrier is the same barrier every game in the series has: it’s very hard. The references don’t hinder the fun and this game stands on its own strongly. Etrian Odyssey Nexus is an elegant farewell to a series and a system. If this is the last we see of the Etrian series, this is a high note to go out on.
