Although sometimes awkwardly paced and linear, Eternal Sonata is an RPG that everyone should consider checking out, especially for the unique premise and touching music. The battle system is rewarding and evolves throughout the game and seeing the characters interact is a lot of fun. Especially with the added features, there's really no reason for RPG-hungry gamers to pass up the PS3 version.

  • There are a few minor problems, from sometimes-weird enemy A.I. to occasional frustrations in battle, but, overall, Eternal Sonata is a great JRPG and a must-play for any RPG fan. During a holiday season rife with shooters and action titles, I doubt you'll find as solid a traditional RPG as Eternal Sonata.

  • This mesmerising harmony of pastel colours and peerless audio is without doubt one of the 360's most significant RPGs, and it is essential for fans of the genre. It suffers from repetition with regard to battles, but it is still worth every beat of your heart that passes as you play.

  • What it may lack in length, it more than makes up for in absolutely every other aspect. The battle system is addictively fun, the multifaceted story is riveting, and the graphics are amazing... we couldn't ask for much more. This is definitely the best traditional RPG for the 360 to date, and a must-have for any 360 owner, RPG fan or not.

  • You might find Eternal Sonata to be relatively short for your tastes if you are a fan of Japanese RPGs. It clocks in at around 30 hours in a leisurely play-through, but it's worth noting that there is little filler in the gameplay or story. The game gets to the point with a smart, action-packed battle system and a dazzling world that will take your breath away.

  • Despite a few sour notes, Eternal Sonata comes together in a way that few can match with its consistent and colorful musical atmosphere. Xbots bemoaning the lack of genre variety for their console can worry no longer, as the game’s one of the best RPGs in the market right now. If you have any reservations, don’t miss a half step. Tri-Crescendo has a hit on their hands, and Eternal Sonata has just the bravado the 360 needs.

Eternal Sonata is a great RPG to give to your kid, but it?s also put together well enough for older gamers to enjoy. If you haven?t had much experience with RPGs, Eternal Sonata would be a great way to get your feet wet. Hardcore RPG fans might find the game a bit lacking, but we found enough to enjoy in the game to keep the limited role-playing elements far enough out of mind from start to finish for the game to keep from growing stale.

  • But for the story alone, it's worth playing through, with a maturity that reminds us heavily of the dual appeal of Pixar's cinematic efforts (adult themes on a colourful exterior) as it unfolds. This is the blackest of fairy tales - where the ending may not be happily ever after.

  • The wonderful narrative, great cast, enjoyable battle system and stunningly beautiful music and artwork are all compelling reasons to explore Chopin's deathbed dream. However, we can't escape the feeling that this isn't so much an eternal sonata, as an unfinished symphony.
