- With your continued exploration eventually leading you to reach one of three endings based on your decisions, Elliot Quest is a lengthy game that welcomes repeat adventures. Whether you want to unlock all three through your own efforts or resort to checking them out on YouTube is entirely your own choice, but know that this is a suitably challenging game that leans heavily on a bygone era. It’s a homage worthy of your time, but be warned that it still carries the same flaws as its inspiration.
Alex Seedhouse · Dec 12, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Even with Elliot Quest being a homage to my least favorite Zelda game, I still found it to be an enjoyable experience. If you have a version of it already, don’t expect to find something new. The release on Switch seems meant for a new audience that weren’t Wii U owners, as opposed to a new experience for existing fans. Elliot Quest has a familiar feel that makes it a great title if you’re looking to dip your toes into the Nindie experience on Switch.
David Lloyd · Oct 26, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Elliot Quest manages to take some of the best things from its inspirations and present them once again almost as successfully; the RPG elements and dungeon exploration are a pleasure to play through. Unfortunately, a lack of clarity in the game’s direction (both plot-wise, and literally for the player) leave the game rather shy of the greatness it could have been.
Ryan Craddock · Oct 26, 2017 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Despite some occasional slowdown and a cryptic set-up, Elliot Quest is a worthy homage to games like Castlevania II and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. If you missed out on the Wii U version, give this 3DS port a go. Just be prepared for some annoyances, though.
Harrison Milfeld · Jul 17, 2017 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - All in all, the post-patch version of Elliot Quest is a fun, but imperfect game. The challenge can be overwhelming, and occasionally the save points are spaced a bit too far apart. Still, the skill development, open exploration, and side scrolling bow-and-arrow combat is worth checking out.
Andy Goergen · Jun 19, 2017 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - There’s no doubt that Elliot Quest is an homage to games like Zelda 2 and Castlevania, but there’s also a lot of originality here, especially in the game’s narrative.
Danny Saya · Apr 03, 2015 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - Elliot Quest is a solid new entry to the ever-growing stable of great eShop titles. While it's not perfect - there really shouldn't be slowdown in a game with 8-bit pixel art, and it can be frustrating to try to figure out where to go next - anyone looking for a challenging, satisfying action adventure will likely get a lot of enjoyment out of it. As well as all this, Elliot Quest is a great showcase for what HTML5 can do. Just be prepared to do a lot of exploring.
Lee Meyer · Mar 23, 2015 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - It’s easy to get lost in Elliot Quest, which can be good and bad. I lost track of time as I enjoyed the dungeons and exploration so much, but I would too often get lost and not know how to progress. Whether you welcome that kind of challenge or not, Elliot Quest is a fine, fantastic addition to the Wii U eShop that might very well become a breakout game like Cave Story. This is a tremendous game that, if you have any affinity for aspects of Zelda II and Metroid games, is something you should be getting as soon as possible.
Neal Ronaghan · Mar 19, 2015 Reviewed on Wii URead full review - To judge a game such as Elliot Quest is more convoluted than might be expected. On the one hand, there's a compound of flavoursome ingredients, while on the other one lays a final course that tastes just like a million others. It doesn't do anything bad, but just does not reach notable heights or excel anywhere.
Matteo Carlarino · Apr 24, 2018 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Elliot Quest looks like a lost side-scrolling game from the NES area. Very nostalgia-driven, it takes form as a hardcore side-scrolling action game, which may be too for some tastes. Those up to the challenge, though, will be rewarded with a surprisingly deep game.

After Elliot’s wife disappears, he falls sick and attempts to take his own life--only to discovers that he can’t die. Plagued by nightmares and growing weaker by the day, Elliot seeks out a local Sage, who tells him that he’s the victim of a rare curse. A demon called a Satar is slowly consuming Elliot’s vitality. If Elliot can’t find a cure to the curse before it’s too late, he will become a Satar. His only hope is to ask for the help of one of the island’s Guardians, who have kept the Satar from taking over Urele. Elliot can’t die—but he’s still running out of time.
