- Earth Defense Force 2025 is the type of game that sacrifices technical efficiency to deliver larger-than-life action that's consistently a chaotic blast. Sure, it's a lot of silliness with little explanation, but that's part of what makes it so charming. If you can get a buddy in the same room for couch co-op, that’s the way to go; if not, online play should be enough to recommend a purchase – just expect the occasional connection issue.
Dave Letcavage · Mar 18, 2014 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Sandlot, the developers behind Earth Defense Force 2025, understand that giving gamers a purely visceral, gunplay-infused journey, if executed with panache, will keep them coming back for more. Don't expect any semblance of thematic depth from this alien invasion adventure, but if blasting giant spiders into kingdom come doesn't get your motor running, you're driving the wrong car.
Greg Srisavasdi · Mar 10, 2014 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Overall, I see what Earth Defense Force 2025 is going for and it’s somewhat headed in the right direction. Some people will get a real kick out of this one and there is some fun to be had from the frenetic slaughter of massive amounts of enemies in co-op mode, but all the fun is leeched out of it in just a few missions. Add in redundant game play (on and offline), a completely joyless single player experience, an unbalanced class system, poor graphics, dated music and over the top attempts to put it into the ‘so bad it’s good’ category overwhelmingly outweigh the few positives EDF 2025 offers.
Doug Mercer · Mar 09, 2014 Reviewed on X360Read full review - All things considered, Earth Defense Force: 2025 is an average game that is worthy of trying. Players who can appreciate this action-packed romp for what it is will find dozens of hours of entertainment awaiting them. If you plan on picking it up, it is recommended that you don’t go it alone, bring a friend over for some good couch co-op or play together over the Internet for a good time.
Chris Taylor · Mar 06, 2014 Reviewed onRead full review - In spite of its flaws and its cultural quirkiness, Earth Defense Force 2025 is still a well-made game that offers an almost-therapeutic bug-busting experience. You do wonder what they’ve been smoking when the dragons and mechas come out, but the stellar combat makes up for that.
Mary-Anne Lee · Mar 05, 2014 Reviewed onRead full review - If you’re willing to brave the wonky controls, bland looks, repetitive sounds and wholly uninspiring story, there’s a content-rich base-level appeal to Earth Defense Force 2025 that will draw you in. With upcoming DLC, there’s missions, weapons, and co-op to keep you entertained for a long, long time. EDF gets the basics right. Yet I cannot shake the feeling that the game could have used far more TLC from a developer that has already been around the block.
John VanderSchuit · Feb 28, 2014 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - EDF 2025’s problems are far outweighed by the profound and unique experience it offers
Lawrence Sonntag · Feb 27, 2014 Reviewed on X360 - It may be clichéd to brand EDF the videogame equivalent of a b-movie, but it's an entirely appropriate description. If you love having fun, there's something here for you
Rob Crossley · Feb 26, 2014 Reviewed on PS3, X360 - Earth Defense Force 2025 is a fantastic example of everything that makes pure action gaming so much fun, packed with replay value and over the top set pieces, and a more than worthy sequel that tops its predecessor in every way. Seeing as EDF 2017 is one of the best 3D action shooters ever, that’s a pretty impressive accomplishment.
James · Feb 26, 2014 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Like a cheesy 80s pop record, Earth Defense Force 2025 is so bad that it’s almost quite good. There are more flaws here than a second-hand clothes shop, but there are worse ways to wile away your time than by blasting supersized insects in the antennae. However, while this big bug buster certainly won’t make your skin crawl, don’t anticipate a whole lot more than a really silly third-person shooter with even stupider ants.
