- On the upside, the story was well written and the characters were likable enough to keep us engaged, but the overall blandness of the gameplay meant that we weren’t motivated to check out Dusk Diver 2’s New Game+. This is a game that you could consider on sale but it definitely isn’t worth it at full price.
SebastiaanRaats · Aug 29, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The characters are incredibly likeable, the environment is bright and vivid. Despite not knowing the full context of the story from the original game, the story in this title was still intriguing. JRPG fans and fans of the hack-n-slash genre should definitely add this one to their playlist.
Thi Chao · Aug 25, 2022 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Dusk Diver 2, like the first game, has potential; the cast of characters and storyline are both engaging, and the world could definitely host more interesting stories in the future. However, this sequel sadly fumbles things on the gameplay front, with a disappointing mixture of damage-sponge enemies and drawn-out encounters.
Scott McCrae · Aug 23, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Better combat and more time to hang out with the delightful staff of the Tumaz Mart is sure to please, but it's a shame that both the story and many of the side quests are fairly forgettable. Overall, this is a fairly solid hack-and-slash adventure with some really creative dungeons to explore, but it does have a little bit too much busywork and not enough variety.
Jenny Jones · Aug 23, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - It’s a reasonably polished experience, but it takes no risks. It set its goals low and met all of them. That’s maybe the best-case scenario for this sort of game. Personally, I’d prefer an ambitious game with lots of jank than a solid game with little imagination, and Dusk Diver 2 sits firmly in the latter category.
Zoey Handley · Aug 23, 2022 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Dusk Diver 2 shows a notable improvement over the original by adding a second playable character to switch between in-battle at any point, but doesn’t improve the formula enough to be a must-have for anyone who didn’t love the original.
Jeremy Peeples · Aug 23, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Dusk Diver 2 isn’t a flawless game, nor the most original. However, it wears its heart on its sleeve and provides a lot of enjoyment if you’re willing to give it a chance. It feels like a homecoming in many respects, even if it’s a series you’re only just now experiencing for the first time. That’s rather special in a way. For action RPG fans looking for a colorfully fun time, Dusk Diver 2 might be worth a look.
Audra Bowling · Aug 23, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Dusk Diver 2 is an enjoyable action experience where players can embrace character customization, upgrading, and cosmetic alterations at their leisure. The fusion of congenial hub activities and plentiful combative encounters provides a fulfilling gameplay balance where neither side overtakes the other.
Orpheus Joshua · Aug 23, 2022 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - There’s a lot to do in Ximending, and all of it provides some kind of benefit, no matter how slight it may be, so even just exploring feels like it’s worth your time. The combat feels good as well, although some enemies that you face later on in the game can be incredibly frustrating to fight, and the platforming stages show that musou games’ controls are too imprecise to ever use for platforming. It tells a fairly good story through all the grammatical errors, and all the characters are well-designed and appealing. Unfortunately, there’s no way to check how long I played on PS4, but I’m pretty sure it fell somewhere between 15 and 20 hours. If you’re a fan of the genre, or if the design and premise sound appealing to you, you’ll probably enjoy Dusk Diver.
Chris Melchin · Nov 12, 2019 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Dusk Diver 2 is a great game in combat but an average game everywhere else. Thankfully, it has a believable world and engaging characters.
