  • The game is also stiflingly linear. The minimap shows the narrow paths leading to most objectives with little variation, and hitting up on the d-pad will give you a Fable-like golden trail to follow, saving you the need to do any exploration yourself.

  • Dungeon Siege III's co-op is well-tailored for roommates or couples who just want to work through the game together. That's a pretty narrow slice of the audience, though. I love playing Dungeon Siege III despite its many flaws, and if you don't mind that the overall experience is pretty shallow and meant for single player, you probably will, too.

It’s a game built from pluck and resourcefulness, in other words: thoughtful when it can afford to be and stoically reliable – for the most part – when it can’t

  • It doesn’t offer anything particularly new, but gamers that enjoy hacking and looting by themselves should have fun

  • A single expedition is all you need before you realize its treasures are a bit on the hollow side

  • Nevertheless, Dungeon Siege III is among the finer ways you can dungeon-crawl on your 360 these days

  • However, putting the number three behind the title should mean progression. Unfortunately, this feels more like a transgression. Enjoyable for what it is, Dungeon Siege III will entertain for as long you can stand it. Just don't expect things to get much better.

  • It's unapologetically simple, revels in throwing huge amounts of collectibles at the player, and lets you sift through the mess it creates. It's just a shame the co-op isn't better implemented -- without a compelling multiplayer component, Dungeon Siege 3 lags behind its role-playing competitors.

  • However, if you are in the market for a loot friendly game with an enjoyable combat system and a serviceable story then this is a game you could have some fun with. Just don’t go in expecting much at all from the multiplayer or any kind of real challenge, with even the hardest difficulty feeling like a nice stroll through the park on a sunny day.

  • Dungeon Siege 3 is noticeably pricier than the competition in the genre, but it's a modernised take on dungeon crawling that brings a few new ideas to the series with superior production values.
