- At the end of the day, Dungeon of the Endless attempts to scratch a lot of itches by meshing together a lot of different genres, and it manages to do so in a satisfying way. The collection and allocation of resources aren't the most intriguing aspects of the game, but the gameplay is still pretty solid. Meanwhile, the character selection and roguelite elements provide plenty of replayability.
Joseph Doyle · Jun 23, 2020 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Even after that rant about the game crashing at the end, I’d still say that Dungeon of the Endless is a fairly enjoyable and very unique experience. Despite the fact that it’s been out for six years already, it doesn’t feel all too old, and the mechanics, while a little too hectic for my tastes, could easily find a fanbase of its own (and undoubtedly already has). I can’t say that this game would be among the first that I would recommend to a Switch owner, especially with its current bugginess, but there are definitely worse things that you could play.
Kenny McKee · Jun 08, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Dungeon of the Endless gives a bad first impression that hides an addictive, fun game. The poor tutorial and unclear mechanics might initially turn off some players, but if you're willing to push past that, Dungeon of the Endless is an enjoyable combination of dungeon-crawling and tower defense. While the Switch version may not have the best controls, its portability is a great combination for the game design, and even those who've played the PC version may want to give this one a shot.
Chris "Atom" DeAngelus · Jun 01, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall though, what kept me coming back to Dungeon of the Endless was the way every run felt like a different puzzle to be solved. Though each level started to look the same, the wide variety of room types and layouts available meant that it never felt the same. If you’re a rogue-like fan desperate for something new, this is exactly the game you’ve been waiting for.
Thomas Medina · May 14, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Dungeon of the Endless features great-looking 8-bit retro graphics. There’s also an in-game tutorial to get you up-and-running. Gameplay here is challenging. The tap to select controls definitely need a lot of help, as it can be difficult to move and deploy your characters in the middle of an intense firefight.
Daniel Adrian Sanchez · Apr 01, 2016 Reviewed on iOS - Full disclosure, in the ten hours we spent with Dungeon of the Endless over the course of this review, we didn't escape from the dungeons. Even playing on the inappropriately named 'Too Easy' mode, this rogue-like can turn on you in an instant. Take your eye off the ball and your previously flourishing band of survivors can be unceremoniously wiped out, taken down by rapidly spawning hordes of enemies without so much as a last breath with which to cry for help.
Josephine Lawton · Jan 28, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - There are a lot of great roguelikes and tower defense games on iOS that offer up nearly-instant rewards, but that's not the way this particular game is set up. Its bizarre genre-crossing means that you're going to have to learn a lot of new things, even if you've played plenty of games that share certain elements with it. That aspect is going to turn off some, while sounding like sweet music to others. One thing is for sure, however. If you've been looking for a deeper experience in either genre, you'll want to find a home for this game on your iPad.
Shaun Musgrave · Sep 11, 2015 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Dungeon of the Endless works well with the iPad interface and is a great game in its own right. Be warned if you’re unaccustomed to roguelikes. It can be discouraging starting over from scratch, so even though the action enticing, failure is so punishing it can be difficult to brush yourself off for another attempt. If you do get sucked in, however, you’re going to laugh at the piddling entry fee. $5 is mighty cheap considering the pleasures and ordeals that are waiting.
Tom Mc Shea · Sep 08, 2015 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Dungeon of the Endless is something of a mash-up of genres that pulls off each element very well. If you have a thing for strategy, tower defense, dungeon crawling, roguelikes, or pixel art, then you really can’t go wrong by checking it out.
Rob Rich · Aug 20, 2015 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Dungeon of the Endless is an intriguing mix of roguelike dungeon crawler and tower defense. Grab a crew of heroes, defend them with room modules, explore a lost dungeon, and find your way to the end. Like most roguelikes, success in the game is still heavily based on luck, but there's still a lot to love in Dungeon of the Endless.
