  • It’s fun to have some friends alongside to utilize the class skills designed to support allies, and even when there are multiple fireballs and vortexes raging across the screen the frame rate remains steady, marking the game’s only real use of the PS3’s power. Like a fast food burger, Dungeon Hunter: Alliance is a generic mishmash of tasty ingredients that crudely satiates your appetite, but it’s nothing particularly special. Though unfortunately, at $12.99, it’s definitely not on the value menu.

  • Instead of a welcome break from the lengthy solo-campaign, online co-op gets marred by glitchiness and other players’ ineptitude. With everyone forced to remain within the confines of the same screen areas, it only takes one person to turn battles into an irksome tug-of-war for visual real estate. Ultimately, Dungeon Hunter does offer a few moments of fun, but they're eclipsed by painful repetition and clumsy design.

  • Despite lengthy loading times, problematic multiplayer and a dull story, there's definitely some fun and a decent amount of gameplay hidden deep inside the depths of Dungeon Hunter: Alliance for serious fans of the dungeon crawler genre. For the rest, it would be wise to sheath that sword and wait for a discount or significant patch, because even with the additional elements added to the game, the lack of overall improvement just doesn’t justify the nearly quadrupled cost from the previous versions.

  • While the game does offer up some mild enjoyment in small spurts, the reality is this game could have been so much better. Not to mention when you can get the game on PSN for a cheaper price you really have to question why anyone would make the $39.99 plunge to get the game for the Vita. Overall, this is a game is simply below average and best left for a rainy day weekend rental.

  • The Vita copy of Dungeon Hunter: Alliance is in a rather unique and unsavory position. You see, the exact same game can be purchased on the PlayStation Network for less than a third of the $39.99 Vita cartridge cost, and cheaper still on the iOS app store. So unless you're a gamer without a PS3 or an Apple iOS device, there is simply no reason to purchase this pricey port. If Dungeon Hunter: Alliance seems interesting, give it a couple of months and I guarantee you'll find it in the bargain bin at your local gaming store.

  • Compared to some of the games that it has decided to price itself against, Dungeon Hunter: Alliance looks absolutely pitiful. Sitting this next to Uncharted, Army Corps of Hell or even Ubisoft's own Lumines, exposes Alliance for the cheap, nasty, outdated and outclassed little con job that it is. Expensive at a quarter of the price, this embarrassing waste of space has no business pretending to be a full retail game, and doesn't deserve to be on the PlayStation Vita.

  • The biggest hurdle really is the price. If this were a cheaper downloadable game like its predecessors, it would be easier to recommend. As it is, it's hard to feel like you're getting a good deal when an almost identical experience is available on other platforms at a lower cost. These dungeons may be worth hunting in, but you can do that just as well somewhere else.

Dungeon Hunter: Alliance isn’t as polished as Diablo and lacks the charm of Torchlight. Battling through its varied levels and sorting through mountains of loot is fun, when glitches don’t get in the way. Unfortunately, when it costs $28 more to hack and slash through the adventure on Vita than on Playstation 3, one must question the value of the package. The added Vita elements and the glitches just don’t go far enough.

  • There is no character customization to speak of, online multiplayer just does not work yet, and Move support feels out of place for this genre. But what’s here is serviceable for the price, and as long as you go into this game with these kinds of expectations then you will find plenty of game for your hard-earned buck.

Dungeon Hunter: Alliance has left me less than impressed. Gameloft's strategy of copying other studios' hits has worked before and the core game here was a worthwhile clone back on the iPhone two years ago -- but playing it on the PS3 now feels out of place. The extras that have been tacked on to sell this version as a new experience all fall flat, or, worse, just don't work.
